Manila reports the Philippine government apologizes for Wednesday’s student raid on the U S Embassy while noting anti American sentiment may be warranted. U S Ambassador Byroade protested police failure to defend the embassy as 1 000 demonstrators attacked the building.
Light snow fell across the northern half of Indiana with temperatures dropping from springlike highs into the teens. Dawn readings ranged from 18 at Lafayette to 30 at Evansville as the system moves in, with overnight lows in the low 20s across Fort Wayne South Bend Indianapolis and Terre Haute.

A car and a pickup collided at the First and B Streets northeast intersection in Linton at 1 20 p m Wednesday causing extensive damage. Mrs Annetta M Pruett Worthington 1968 sedan east on B St and William McKee Linton 1967 pickup south on First collided when Pruett entered First St resulting in a total loss for her car and $350 damage to the truck. Mrs Pruett was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The Chicago Seven were found innocent of conspiring to incite riots at the 1968 Democratic National Convention. Five were found guilty of crossing state lines to incite riots and related acts. John Froines and Lee Weiner were acquitted on all charges. Judges had held contempt for the defendants and their lawyers, with appeals focusing on trial handling.
At the Vietnam peace talks in Paris, North Vietnam pressed the United States to free the Chicago Seven and their two lawyers, condemning the trial as fascist repression and linking it to extending the Vietnam War in Indochina. Five of the seven were found guilty of crossing state lines to incite a riot, with all seven and their lawyers jailed for contempt.
Kenneth Adams has become pastor of the First Baptist Church in Linton with his wife and four daughters moving into the parsonage. A Lawrence County native, he previously led the Williams church since 1963 after serving as supply pastor, and was ordained in 1964. He was a masonry contractor before full-time ministry and directed a 1967 ABC project in Pilate Haiti.
