About 300 union members at the Sterling Brewery Evansville plant walked out beginning Monday over working conditions. Local 1153 of the Brewery Workers Union termed the strike unauthorized, while union leadership urged a return to work.
A Monday night blaze at the Beveridge Paper Company warehouse in Indianapolis was sparked by an electrical short from lightning. Initial losses were estimated at 250000 dollars, but officials now peg damages at about 75000 dollars.
Four year old Troy Bolinger fell into a neighbor's swimming pool in Evansville and died on arrival at Deaconess Hospital. His mother Patricia Bolinger carried him to the hospital after the accident Tuesday.
Thomas McKenzie 33 of Cincinnati pleaded guilty in Bartholomew Circuit Court to selling obscene matter. He was fined 500 dollars and sentenced to six months, suspended, with six months probation. The first test of the 1975 obscenity statute scheduled for Thursday was canceled.
In a letter to Senator Strom Thurmond the Department of Health Education and Welfare ruled that Boys State and Girls State mock legislatures do not violate Title IX. The exemption is akin to that for social fraternities and sororities and youth service groups like YMCA YWCA Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.
The liquor price fixing bill passed by the legislature may not take effect before November elections. Rep Jewell G Harris of Gary denied rumors it stalled between the printer and Gov Otis R Bowen. He said there will be time for Bowen to sign it, but a veto could make override unlikely.

The Indiana legislature approved the first new penal code since 1905 and a modernized campaign practices act. Senate and House leaders remained divided on an $80 million budget gap, with hopes for a supplemental plan. The code retains the death penalty in some murders and ends indeterminate sentencing while addressing hunting language errors. Governor Bowen urged passage.
Spencer of Fair Play Township was named Conservation Farmer of the Year by Greene County Soil and Water Conservation District at the district dinner in Eastern school cafeteria. He farms livestock and grain and has implemented ponds hay and pasture measures 178 acres minimum tillage and 178 acres crop residue measures to prevent erosion. Max Carrico of Smith Township was re elected to the board defeating Ralph Raper and Robert Warren and serves as chairman. Soil judging teams from Eastern High School and Central High were honored with Eastern winning the county title. Carter Everage of the State Soil and Water Conservation Committee gave the address on Conservation and Common Sense and soil proposals before the legislature. Carrico served as master of ceremonies as a 1975 progress report and district edition copies were distributed.
Two traffic accidents occurred early this morning on and near Highway 54 in Greene County. Ronald L. Jones and Carl R. Killian each drove away with only vehicle damage, while a Martinsville line wreck injured Joan Worthington and her husband, both transported to hospital.
The Greene County Board of Commissioners named a five member drainage board with Hays to one year Mansfield Davidson Ellis three two year terms and Carpenter Benham two and three years respectively. They discussed liability insurance with Indiana Insurance Co and a Richland Township road remonstrance leading to appointed viewers. The boiler serving the courthouse needs emergency repair and the county will pursue major fixes next winter.
The Linton-Stockton School Board accepted Peoples Trust Co. bid at 3.96 percent for a 179 500 temporary loan over Citizens National Bank at 5.34 percent. The meeting also approved emergency leave for Stephen Vitosky and welcomed educator program updates as North Central Association evaluates the elementary school for accreditation.
Wallace backers from Greene Owen and Monroe counties are invited to a meeting in Bloomington at 7 30 p m Thursday night at the Monroe County Library. Richard Stump Wallace for President state campaign chairman will attend and discuss placing Wallace on the Indiana primary ballot and the delegate run for the Democrat state convention in June. A campaign stop in the area before the primary is possible.
The Shakamak Board of School Trustees approved adult education contracts for Ed Huddleston aeronautics Bea Anthony sewing Ted Bennett welding Jo Rotman art Paul Warrick bookkeeping Bob Swaby small engines and Earl Row photography. Temporary teaching contracts were signed for Sharon Mishler and Dan Thorston. The board endorsed a grant application by Indiana State University for a model center for learning disabilities. They approved a duplicator and steamer washer purchases and discussed building fund investments. Textbook adoption aims for health and science with a committee named. The meeting included Superintendent Don Wells and several teachers and parents.
Janelle Cousino of the Citizens Energy Coalition labeled the 1976 Indiana Legislature a total failure for utility reform at a news conference in Indianapolis. She urged Gov. Otis Bowen to reject a consumer bill of rights and outlined a plan to seek action in the next session, criticizing Senate leadership and gubernatorial disinterest.
