The War Mother's Auxiliary No. 2 is invited to meet the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary on Thursday at 7 30 in the local Legion home. All members are urged to attend. Mr and Mrs Chester Wills and children visited Mr and Mrs Walter Wills in Greenfield over the weekend.
Army experts warned of multiple leaks of atomic bomb secrets as Maj. Gen. Groves stated security has deteriorated more in four weeks than in wartime. Ottawa investigated Canadian disclosures to a foreign mission while Drew Pearson linked leaks to Russia. London MPs warned of anti Soviet propaganda.
John H. Shaffer, 70, a retired mine hoisting engineer, died at 8:20 p.m. Saturday in Freeman-Greene County Hospital after a year of illness. He was born Sept. 29, 1875 in Greene County and lived here most of his life. Survived by widow Anna, son John W. Shaffer of Red Wing Minnesota, step-daughter Ruth Reintjes of Linton, two grandchildren, a great grandchild, and two sisters, Maude Howard and Emma Proverce. Funeral by Welch and Cornett Funeral Home at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the home with Rev. Orvin Gates. burial in Fairview Cemetery.
Mr and Mrs Virgil Gray of Terre Haute announce the arrival of a daughter Paula Ann born Friday. Weighing six pounds three ounces, she is the fifth child in the family and a former Linton residents.
The Linton Inter Church council will meet at 7 o'clock this evening in the basement of the Saron Evangelical and Reformed church. All members are urged to attend.
A new basketball style on roller skates debuts in Linton at the Linton Roller Rink tonight with a local team facing Sullivan. The lineup includes Wendell Ladson, Bob O’Hern, Bill Goodman, George Lang, Ed Dukes, Charles Goodman, Sherman Rice and Norman Watson. Gates open at eight with a small admission fee.
The 1946 state sectional basketball tournament pairings were announced by the Indiana State High School Athletic Association. Twelve teams compete at Worthington Greene County Center and Sullivan with rounds across Worthington Vincennes Martinsville and Bloomington leading to a regional final on March 2.
Greene county residents bought 58243.50 dollars in war savings bonds in January. Dr. E. V. Bull, county bond sales chairman, announced the local total alongside a state-wide figure of 15816736 dollars for the same period.
Linton high school powered past the Gerstmeyer Black Cats of Terre Haute 37 to 26 in Garfield gym. Dudley Sanders and Keller led scoring with Peterson Richardson and others contributing. the win secures no conference title though the Western Central crown was already clinched by Tech.

The February term of the Greene circuit court began this morning in Bloomfield with only routine business. Court activities included setting civil and criminal dockets to be announced tomorrow.
Revival services at the Linton United Brethren Church will continue this week with nightly programs at 7 15 led by Raymond Boston the choir leader. Rev William Medcalf announced the decision citing rising interest and a full house last night inviting members and friends to attend.
Two new divorce suits were placed on file today in the Greene circuit court clerk's office at Bloomfield. The cases are Minnie Stark versus Carl Stark and Holley L. Craig versus Mary M. Craig.
Chester Bowles, new economic stabilizer, warned Congress that inflation and instability would worsen if price controls lapse after June 30. He urged immediate House Banking Committee passage of a one year extension, continued food subsidies, and price ceilings on homes to protect the economy and housing. He promised streamlined procedures for implementing the wage price plan.
Season tickets for the sectional basketball tournament in Worthington go on sale at the local high school and Ladson's Sporting Goods, priced at 1.50. They cover Thursday evening, Friday and Saturday sessions. Single session tickets are available at Worthington. O. L. Johnson said the Linton schools receive a percentage of all tickets sold.
Claude Story's Hoosier Ambassadors, an independent college style basketball team, tour Illinois Missouri Oklahoma and Kansas undefeated. Rev W H Thompson Jr known as The Hoosier Evangelist from Clay City will lead a series of revival services at the Free Methodist church in Lyons starting Sunday night February 24 and continuing nightly through March 10. Mrs Thompson will directs the song services and the public is invited to attend any or all sessions.
The Junior High A team tangles with Newberry Junior High A at seven o'clock this evening. The Newberry high school team also plays Linton High School B later in the evening. Public invited to attend.

CIO steel workers resume work at 12:01 a.m. after a four week walkout. About 365,000 return to U S Steel Corp and 12 other companies with $1.48 wage boosts. Full production to take three weeks as furnaces reheat and stockpiles rebuild. Other labor actions include UAW talks with GM, NFU telephone workers strike plans, and a Pittsburgh mine workers convention pushing 35 hour week.

A Greene County Bar Association banquet was held Friday night in the Chambers dining room with J. M. Hudson as master of ceremonies. Bloomfield High School band performed and Bloomfield fourth graders danced. Linton attendees included Mr and Mrs R M Vincent A M and Kern Beasley Miss Beulah Bolton and M W Gilbreath Jr.
The United Press final statewide ranking names the Linton Miners as team No 16. It predicts the Miners will win the Worthington Sectional and Martinsville regional tournament. Evansville Central is tipped to win the Bloomington semi final.
Bond of $500 each was set today for two men appealing sentences in Greene circuit court at Bloomfield. Dennis Montgomery challenged a $100 fine a six month Penal Farm term and $10.80 costs for assault and battery. Charles Stormes of Linton appealed a $10 fine a 90 day Penal Farm term and $10.80 costs. Not expected to be acted on during February term.
Cpl. Joseph Myers, 19, Jasonville High School graduate, died December 24 in Japan from burns after voluntarily entering a burning building in Hokkaido to recover documents under his care. He joined the Army January 20, 1945 and served four months overseas. He worked for Furnas Ice Cream in Indianapolis before enlisting. Survivors include parents Mr. and Mrs. Richard Myers of Jasonville, two sisters Rita Ann and Rosemary, and three brothers Richard Jr. in Indianapolis Hugh in the Army Air Forces and James A. recently discharged.
Jasonville leaders and the Wednesday Research Club led by Mrs. Sam Rotman plan a teen canteen project. The group sponsors a campaign to boost interest and a meeting will be held soon to discuss the proposal.
