Hospital notes give births and admissions in several towns
Mrs. Cora East of Worthing ton was admitted Tuesday for medical treatment. Mrs. Neva Berlien of Hymera entered the hospital for medical treatment yesterday. Mrs. Roy Miller of Linton was admitted today for medical treatment. Mrs. Verna Hunter of Linton submitted to minor surgery to day. First Gypsum Rock From Shoals Marks Indiana Start
The United States Gypsum Co announced the first gypsum rock was mined today at Shoals Indiana. Mining will begin in months after rock was brought to the surface from a shaft reaching 400 feet below ground. Experts note gypsum has lain dormant here for about 225 million years.
Lyons Fire Destroys Two Business Rooms
A Lyons blaze of unknown origin last night gutted the dry goods department of the Mitchell store and the Bill Busby Barber Shop. Discovered at 10:00 pm by Bill Weber, the fire was controlled by Lyons firefighters within about 30 minutes. Damage was estimated at several hundred dollars with no definite figure available this afternoon.

Pay Raise for Congress Seen Passing by Big Margin
Supporters of a ten thousand dollar annual pay raise for congressmen expect a three to one approval margin in the House. Sponsor Rep Francis E Walter noted opposition unlikely and Judiciary Chairman Emmuel Cellar predicted no more than 150 opposed votes. Mrs. Minnie Burnette 86 Dies at Rest Haven
Mrs. Minnie Foster Burnette, 86, died at Rest Haven early this morning after years of poor health. Born May 31, 1868 in Greene County, she lived mainly in Linton and belonged to the Christian Church. Survived by one sister, Dora Kemmis, she had two children who preceded her in death. Funeral plans include return of the body to Rest Haven this afternoon, with services Friday at 2 pm in the Rest Haven chapel, Rev. Robert Wilkes officiating, burial at Little Flock cemetery near Shelburn.

James W. Crosby 47 of Bedford is jailed in Linton on charges of passing fraudulent checks and public intoxication after a tip led to his arrest by Linton Police Chief William Coleman and Officers Austin Greenway and Bob Hemmerling. Crosby allegedly passed two $10 checks last Saturday and one this morning drawn on Bedford Citizens Bank. He faces Greene circuit court charges in Bloomfield with transfer to county jail pending sobriety and interrogation.

Gibson County coroner reported Ray Charles Wallace a 44 year old Los Angeles Negro and Mae West's driver killed himself with carbon monoxide from a Cadillac exhaust. He was found in a Patoka barn wearing a chauffeur uniform with a stove pipe exhaust leading to a crib. An Los Angeles uncle said Wallace was en route from Miami to Chicago to work for Miss West and boxes with her name were in the car.
