Birth of Tom McKim Junior in Wayne Michigan

Mr and Mrs Lowell Harrell and Mr and Mrs Jerry Wright of this city announce the birth of a son to Mr and Mrs Tom McKim of Wayne Michigan. He was born Saturday February 6 weighing nine pounds one ounce and named Tom McKim Junior. Mrs McKim formerly Miss Linda Carpenter sister of Mrs Wright and Keith Carpenter.

Russell Otto of Linton and Ruth Walton of Linton were admitted for medical treatment on Monday. Mrs. Nellie V. Chambers of Lyons, Miss Cleta May Rigsby of Freedom and Fred Holtz of Linton entered for medical care or major surgery. Mrs. Orville Edmondson of Jasonville, Mrs. James R. Dyer of Worthington welcomed a son 7 pounds 13% ounces today. Several dismissals followed including Harold Hackler, Mrs. Amy Brassfield, Burl Swearingen, Mrs. Sarah Gabbard and Mrs. Inez Hudson.

Death of Aunt Nell Haydock Passes at 92 near Linton

Mary Ellen Aunt Nell Haydock 92 died at 8:20 am at the home of her niece near Linton after a hip fracture suffered December 24 1953. Born December 28 1861 in England she moved to Clay City area at age 20 and lived northwest of Linton for about sixty years. She was married to Mark Haydock May 14 1880. he died about forty years ago. Survived by sister Hetty Calabough four nieces and one nephew. Funeral set for Thursday 2:00 pm at Welch and Cornett Funeral Home with Rev C E Horton and Deaconess Nora D Yoder. Burial Olive Branch cemetery.

Lyons Scouts Honored At Special Church Service

Lyons Methodist church held a Sunday morning recognition for Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts. County Group To Offer Blood For Hospital

Eighty five Greene county residents volunteer as stand by blood donors for Freeman Greene county hospital. Dr Kenneth Brashears notes donors previously gave blood in August 1953 and the Red Cross has a blood type listing for ready reference. Volunteers plan further county services in the future.

Tornado injures nineteen in Clarksville Arkansas gym collapse

A early season tornado ripped through Clarksville injuring nineteen at the College of the Ozarks gym during intramural basketball games. Roofs were torn from homes and a garage while none were killed. Red Cross reported no housing emergency as victims stayed with relatives.

Area Baptists To Convene In Bloomfield Evangelistic Rally

The First Baptist of Bloomfield hosts 72 area churches for an evangelistic rally sponsored by the Indiana Baptist convention. Rev. Six Communists Convicted in Federal Trial in Detroit

Six defendants, five men and one woman, were found guilty in federal court in Detroit of conspiracy to teach and advocate violent overthrow of the government. Jury deliberated seven hours. verdict followed by plans to appeal to the Supreme Court. One defendant, Mrs. Helen Winter, is tied to Carl Winter, linked to the New York Smith Act case.

Andrew Johnson 88 Dies in New Castle

Andrew Johnson aged 88, former Greene County resident and painter, died at 2:00 p m Monday at the home of his daughter Mrs Mary Grigsby Rector in New Castle after two years of illness. Survived by two daughters Mrs Rector and Mrs Helen Strader of Indianapolis, one nephew Fred Tungate of Jasonville, one grandson, three great grandchildren. Rain brings caution as Linton barn burned by lightning

A storm dropped 1.22 inches across the region and a lightning strike ignited the Wools farm barn near Linton, destroying a mowing machine, hay and two horses. Fire crews traveled ten minutes each way to battle the blaze as telephones failed and winds pushed flames away from outbuildings.
