A group of five to seven Romanian anti Reds stormed the Romanian legation in Bern seizing the chancery and home of the Romanian charge d affaires. The legation chauffeur Aurel Fetu was fatally shot as others were injured. Swiss police sealed the buildings as the cabinet held an emergency session to address the diplomatic breach and potential hostage resolution. Missing Airplane Believed Found Above Italian Alps
An Italian Air Force searcher spotted what appeared to be wreckage on a snow covered mountain Mt Vettore about 40 miles from the Adriatic. The wreckage was at 5,250 feet and may be an American made plane from Sabena DC6 with 29 aboard, according to Italian air sea rescue HQ at Vigna di Valle.

Clarence Emmett Shepherd 82, a Greene county native who worked in plumbing in Bloomfield before moving to California 30 years ago, died Monday in a Clovis hospital after major surgery. In Richmond Virginia a three story apartment house fire claimed five lives and a sixth person was missing.
