Freeman-Greene County hospital trustees meet to approve a consulting dietician contract with the Indiana Hospital Association. The dietician will serve nine other Indiana hospitals, with costs shared and not exceeding 115 per month per institution. Also approved are 1967 staff reappointments, receivables turned to an attorney for collection, and a January uptick in admissions.
Indianapolis ten year old Derek Williamson died of smoke inhalation when a second story bedroom became trapped by a fire that swept the stairway. His fourteen year old cousin James Person escaped by leaping from a window and later left the hospital with minor injuries. Fire officials said the blaze started beneath the upstairs bedroom, trapping the boys upstairs.
Linton Boy Scouts observe Civic Day marking 57th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America. Troop 50 members will take over city roles including mayor and police chief for part of one day. Scout managers from General Electric and Keller Aluminum Chair firms join work day at local plants.
Morris Gardner a 20 year veteran pilot from Shelbyville Indiana had a forced landing near Miamisburg Ohio when the engine of his Cessna Skylark failed on a Sunday flight. He and his wife Barbara and daughters Kathy and Karen escaped unharmed and planned to return home with help from friends. The plane sustained only minor damage.
President Johnson, citing the curse of racism, to meet with acting Atty. Gen. Ramsey Clark and Negro leaders in Washington to discuss civil rights prospects for the 90th Congress. He notes possible split of the 1967 civil rights package to advance parts of the program.
Linton scouts braved sub freezing temps and winds at Humphreys Park to mark the 57th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America. The Lincoln Trails district held similar campouts as leaders and new scouts gathered firewood, cooked meals, and participated in demonstrations despite cold winds. Leaders included Marlin Baker Kenneth Sitterding and Warren Oaken with Commissioner Dr Cecil Alumbaugh and District Scout Executive William Hill conducting a camp inspection.
A cold air mass lingered over the Northeast driving temperatures below zero in northern Appalachia and New England. Montpelier Vermont recorded 23 below, the coldest in the nation, while Hibbing Minnesota hit 41 below and Lansing Michigan 23 below, the coldest there since 1921. A slight warming trend followed in the Great Lakes with some snow, Chicago receiving two more inches, and New York City reporting 4 above early today.

North Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh asked Pope Paul VI to use his influence with the United States to end the Vietnam War. Hanoi Radio quoted Ho thanking the Pope for a February7 message calling for an early peaceful solution and blaming the U S for continuing the war. Ho sent the telegram to the Vatican.
Bernard Lang 23 and his wife Judy 21 of Hymera were injured when their 1966 auto ahead of a 1958 auto driven by Otis Palmer 58 of Jasonville collided on highway 48 north of the Greene Clay line. Lang suffered a burst wind pipe and injuries. Mrs Lang facial lacerations and knee injury. Their baby, in a car seat, was uninjured. Palmer was treated and released. jailed on DUI driving left of center and suspended license. State Trooper Jerry Grant investigated.
Walter Slezak will play The Clock King as a guest villain on the Batman TV show. The appearance marks Slezak joining the villain lineup for a future episode.
The Greene County Sheriff's Department logged four single vehicle accidents on Saturday. Thom As L Bennett 30 of Jasonville drove off a county road hitting a culvert and a ditch with no injuries. Dennis E Ervin 24 of Bicknell crashed into a culvert after reportedly dozing off suffering multiple injuries and was hospitalized. Mark A Hollingsworth 18 of Linton struck a signpost after following cars too closely with no injuries. Harry L Stewart 22 of Kokomo lost control near Dugger after adjusting a mirror, ending in a ditch with minor damage and no injuries.
State Detective Ralph Shumaker and Greene County officers investigate a Sunday night burglary at the Red and White market on the east edge of Linton. The safe was stolen from the store and a pickup truck was taken from a Green Acres residence. the truck may have been used to haul the safe away. The incident was discovered at 7 10 by Clyde Reynolds, the market manager.
A member of the Rose Polytechnic Institute board and his wife were killed when their private plane crashed at Love Field in Dallas Texas The deceased were A R Watson 67 a 1922 graduate of the school from Terre Haute Indiana and his wife
