A snow covered wreath at Abraham Lincoln's tomb marked the 139th birthday ceremonies in Springfield Illinois. Gov Green state commander Morris and Legion delegates laid wreaths while James F. ONeil urged universal military training and end to voluntary enlistment in a nationwide broadcast tribute.
Miss Effie Hendricks longtime schoolteacher of Vernon Linton Evansville and retired in 1935 died at 3 45 this morning in Freeman Greene county hospital after several weeks illness. Survived by brother Carney Hendricks LeSueur Minn sister Maud Johnson Santa Ana Calif three nieces Lois Alexander Margaret Kuhns M E Willsey two grand nieces and nephews. Body to Welch Cornett Funeral home pending brother word funeral dates not set. She requested no flowers.
In Crown Point Indiana a car driven by Edmund C Szymborsch 26 and his fiance Eleanor Backe 21 was struck by the Pennsylvania Railroad Flyer at a crossing two miles south of town. Both were killed while en route to obtain a marriage license.
Ernest G. Clark announces a called convocation for Monday at 7 30 PM at Linton Chapter No 132 Royal Arch Masons. Work will be given in the Mark and Past Masters degrees. All Royal Arch Masons are invited and refreshments will be served.
Short funeral services for 90 year old Mrs. Fannie Fuller will be held at the Graves home in Nine Mile and continued at the Newark church east of Worthington. Burial follows at Newark Cemetery.
Mrs Lillie Ann Courtney aged 77 died at 12:30 AM at her daughter Mrs Arthur Barnett home 115 Villa Ave Indianapolis after a year of illness. Born December 14, 1870 in Newberry she lived in Linton long and is survived by three daughters Mrs Barnett Mrs Chester Talbott of Indianapolis and Mrs John O Phillips of New Orleans two sons Herschell and Clifford Courtney Jr of Indianapolis two brothers Clay Owen of Bicknell and James Owen of Newellton La and several grandchildren. The body was taken to Welch and Cornett Funeral Home pending arrangements.
Funeral services for Jacob Yung a 69 year old of Dugger will be held at 2 30 PM Friday at the family home Burial will follow in Dugger cemetery He died at 3 50 AM Wednesday at his residence

A 15 year old boy named Thomas Marsh admitted shooting Dolores Conn, 16, after she teased him about another boy. Police said he wept as he confessed to carrying her books home from school and killing her in a jealous rage.

Passengers and crew recount a 300 foot slide on the Denver and Rio Grande narrow gauge line at Cumbres Pass in Colorado. Five cars derailed leaving two coaches down the slope while the parlor car remained upright. All 14 aboard survived with few injuries. one 19 year old passenger suffered frostbite.
John L. Lewis turns 68 as the United Mine Workers leader faces the looming possibility of a coal strike over miners pensions. Officials warn a summer stoppage could threaten rising coal demand and stockpiling while anthracite pits stay closed in his honor. Lewis follows a motor tour schedule likely heading south.

Plaintiffs resigned their regular posts during the last assembly then returned, with defense arguing they are merely employees not officers.
A Danish Airlines transport crashed near Giessen thirty five miles north of Frankfurt killing 11 of 24 aboard. The dead and injured were taken to Giessen American hospital. The company reported 17 passengers and four crew aboard with all casualties Europeans.
