The Daily Citizen’s cooking school closed this afternoon after three successful days with hundreds of women and many men in attendance. Sam Griffith of Worthing ton is in serious condition after a car accident last night. Mary Evelyn Edwards of South Linton had an emergency operation Friday afternoon. Mrs Kenneth Kendall of rural route 8 became the mother of a daughter Sonna Lou. Rosa Bean of Jasonville was admitted yesterday and had an operation this morning.
A small black dog in West Hartlepool apparently tired of life walked to the Union Dock quay and leaped into the water, waiting briefly before plunging over the edge.
Sam Griffith a longtime farmer from the Worthington area was struck by a Clay City driver in Coal City while crossing a main street. He sustained skull injuries and other wounds and was admitted to Freeman Greene County hospital in critical condition after an ambulance transfer. Police investigated the crash with no assignment of blame as yet.
Indiana Secretary of State announces formal filing for the May 3 primaries runs March 4 to April 2. Petitions require signatures equal to one half of one percent of the last secretary of state vote, not to exceed 400. Greene County braces for heightened political activity as candidates step forward for county municipal township and city offices.
Floyd Woolf of Linton assists publicity for the 1938 Junior Follies of Ball State Teachers College in Muncie. The Follies, sponsored by the junior class, debut March 31 in downtown Muncie with Robert Dwiggins of Winchester and Charles Billiard of Keystone directing.
South Bend Ind February 12 Justice Department officials have excused United States Marshal Al W Hosinski from pulling the switch at the electrocution of James Dalhover Brady gangster next April 8 at the Michigan City state prison He cited a reluctance stating he “just couldn t do it” preferring Dalhover He has been in charge here of the half pint murderer of a state policeman.
Dugger high school defeated Clay City 22 to 9 as Cooper led the winners with ten points on four field goals and two free throws. Dugger held a 8-4 halftime lead and extended to 17-6 after three quarters in Indiana basketball action.
Bloomfield high Cardinals defeated Switz City Midgets 51 to 29 on Switz City floor. Bloomfield led 25 8 at halftime and 41 16 after the third. Laughlin, Bloomfield center, top scorer with five field goals and three free throws.
Jasonville and Midland met in a close game with Midland’s Cahall and Terrell each scoring fourteen points but the Yellow Jackets pulled away in the final two quarters to win 41 36. Mitchell led Midland with nineteen points.
Pleasantville High School handed Carlisle High a 39 to 22 defeat on Carlisle’s floor. After a 12-10 first quarter lead, Pleasantville extended to 22-14 at halftime and 33-17 after the third period. Meurer Woodruff and Price led Pleasantville scoring while Cleveland starred for Carlisle. The Pleasantville reserves powered past Young Carlisle 28-14 in the B game.
Unusual eggs shown by Fred Hinman of Linton measure six and a quarter inches by seven and a half inches and weigh just over four ounces. A second egg from George W. Jones near Pleasantville features a normal egg inside an extra shell four inches long and two and a half inches wide.
Elgin reports Miss Margaret Lewis who disappeared from Beloit college after a reprimand for smoking is safe in New York. Grandmother Mrs. John A. Wright said she received a phone message from the girl’s mother Mrs. I. K. Lewis of Duluth and that the girl had wired her mother.
Republicans in Washington led a nationwide anti New Deal blitz during Lincoln birthday commemorations. The event paused congressional activity as both houses remained idle over the weekend.
The National Labor Relations Board ends a 27 month old dispute at Brown Shoe Company's Vincennes Indiana plant. Eleven workers will be reinstated with back pay totaling 4767 dollars. The NLRB will conduct a collective bargaining election. Charges of unfair labor practices are dismissed.
The Linton junior high Welders defeated Carlisle 20 to 16 to stay alive in the Wabash Valley grade school tournament. Eight teams remain, with Ayrshire strong and Ayrshire and Welders set to clash this afternoon at 3 15, while Washington and Vincennes play later for a spot in the 8 40 evening game. Woosley Lewis and Arthur led Welders with six points each while Holder had two and McCammon led Carlisle with six. A large crowd planned to watch Welders Ayrshire then the Washington Vincennes winner.
A telegram to Clyde V. Davis, cashier of Citizens' National Bank, announces the death of his father Charles E. Davis in Provo Utah at age eighty three. Surviving are his widow and seven children. Burial planned at Oregon church Vigo county, date to be announced.

Mrs. Martha McDonald praised local women for home interests and urged future collaboration with energetic, intelligent residents. The Citizen thanks attendees and cooperating merchants for the event’s success.

Authorities promise further arrests and hope confessions reveal the full robbery spree across Indiana towns including Worthington Switz City Bloomfield Sandborn Jasonville and Terre Haute.
Desperate prisoners fled from Michigan City state prison prompting multi state searches led by Thurman A. Gottschalk and Warden Louis Kunkel. Two escapees Hulburt and Gengo remained at large while three others were recaptured. Investigations extended across northwestern Indiana, southwestern Michigan, and southeastern Illinois.
Fred Martin of Sullivan county, serving ten years for the 1933 Pleasantville bank robbery, was granted a commutation by the State Clemency Commission yesterday morning. His term was cut to five to ten years.
