The Linton City Council plans to collect 11327.92 in unpaid utility bills and enforce two hour parking ordinances. They set a special meeting for Feb 17 to review plans for accounts receivable of Light Gas Sewage and Water departments and require current plus at least ten percent of back bills monthly to avoid disconnection.
A final round-up was conducted today in Stockton Township by the Greene County Infantile Paralysis drive committee. Roy Williams and Pat Size urged residents missed in the solicitation to mail contributions to Williams Size or Mahlon Gilbreath Jr. as county chapter chairman.
State epidemiologist reports sharp rise in mumps and measles with no epidemic. Wabash schools report many pupils out sick, Goshen sees ram pages and teachers affected, Indianapolis tallies 392 measles and 164 mumps since January. Kosciusko County declares smallpox scare and bans gatherings.
Federal and Indiana funds will support 52 new airports and 52 improvement projects. The plan covers class 1 to class 5 runways, including seaplane bases at Terre Haute and Vincennes, with Linton and Weir Cook in Indianapolis among improved sites. Total cost about 14.2 million dollars with state and federal shares.
A Dutch army DC-3 crashed near Padalarang in western Java while flying from Bandoeng to Batavia, killing nineteen people including four civilians two of them women. Eleven military passengers and four crew members were also among the dead. cause is unknown.

The body of Pvt James E Armpriester 22 of Linton killed January 23 1944 in Sydney Australia will be returned to Indiana arriving likely today or tomorrow aboard the US Army Transport Cardinal O Connell. It will go to Chicago then Welch and Cornett Funeral Home in Linton for burial with funeral plans pending further information. Armpriester born March 28 1922 son of Harry and Zelda Armpriester, a 1941 Linton Stockton High graduate, formerly of Chrysler Newark plant and a member of the 543d Engineer Corps. He is survived by wife June and son James Michael four, brother Robert Linton sister Patricia Rusher Indianapolis and his parents.
Mrs. Mary Green underwent major surgery Tuesday evening. Andrea Lock was taken to her home in Jasonville Tuesday. Shirley Deckard was taken to her home in Switz City Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Arthur Schmaltz has been taken to her home in Coal City.
Fayetville Ark P the average age at the University of Arkansas has dropped, per E Burke Huber director of the central housing office. Huber reports married veterans on campus have 296 children among their households.
Roy John secretary of the Associated Retailers of Indiana urged conservatism amid inflation and taxes at a Linton Merchants dinner at the local Catholic School hall. He cited economists Marriner Eccles and Beardsley Ruml who forecast a low mood within fifteen to eighteen months and advised merchants to pursue conservative, moderate-profit strategies.
William Ornt, 76, of Elkhart and resident at the Indiana Soldiers' Home, was found dying near a cemetery in Lafayette. Robbery feared as authorities planned an autopsy. police believed he carried $300 to $400, later found with 15 cents.

Secretary of Agriculture Clinton Anderson cited Chicago trader E T Maynard as profiting $300 000 to $400 000 in the week of falling prices. Maynard, with 30 years on the Chicago market, denied any insider information and said he acted on his own judgment.
Indiana launches a recruitment drive to attract about 2000 teachers to elementary grades. State Superintendent Ben H. Watt says licensed secondary teachers can shift to elementary positions, with training. high school graduates with degrees may qualify. The plan also invites out of state teachers by easing Indiana qualification gaps.
Funeral services for William H. Anderson aged 67 were held at the South Linton church with burial in Pleasant Grove cemetery. He had lived in Detroit since moving from Bicknell about a year ago. He leaves three sons Alvin of Bicknell and Alvie and Charles E. of Detroit, a sister Mrs. Anna Allen of Linton, and a grandson Alvie Jr. His wife Bertha Anderson died October 15, 1943.
A marriage license was issued by the clerk of the Sullivan circuit court in Sullivan to Lowell Wayne Bedwell and Yvonne Rose Padgett, both of Dugger route one.
A federal grand jury indicted CIO President Philip Murray and the CIO for violating the Taft Hartley Act by aiding Rep. Edward A. Garmatz in Maryland's 1947 special election. The indictment cites Murray's CIO News endorsement published July 14 as the illegal act. No arraignment date set.
Dugger resident and longtime barber Jacob Yung died at his home at 3:50 this morning after a yearlong illness. Born May 1, 1879 in St. Anthony, he lived 53 years in Dugger. Survived by widow Priscilla, two sons John J. and David A., a daughter Mrs. T. R. Young, four brothers, a sister, and two grandchildren. Funeral arrangements pending.
The Columbus City Aviation Commission reports a 1947 profit of 4225 dollars not from airport operations but from selling soybeans grown on the city airfield.
Mr and Mrs Noland Reeves of Dugger announce the birth of a daughter named Carolyn Sue born Tuesday at Mary Sherman hospital in Sullivan.
Mrs. Fannie Fuller aged 90 of Greene county died at 9 Tuesday night at her daughter Mrs. Vellah Graves home in Nine Mile community northeast of Linton after two years bedridden. Born July 16, 1857 in Smith County Virginia she lived most of her life near Newark before joining her daughter. She was a Prairie Chapel Methodist member. Survived by two sons Edward E. Fuller Terre Haute and James W. Fuller Newark, one daughter Mrs. Graves Linton route one, 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. A son Charles died in 1940. Body taken to Welch and Cornett Funeral Home and returned to Graves residence. Funeral arrangements to be announced.
