Mrs Mary A Little 87 died at home of daughter Effie Huey in Jasonville at 2 AM Sunday after a long illness. Survived by daughter Mertie Bemis and son Levi Russell and Oval Russell, 15 grandchildren, seven nieces and nephews. Body to Sathers Funeral Home Jasonville. funeral Tuesday at 2 PM with Rev Robert Chaffee officiating. Burial Sink Cemetery.
Strong flames ripped through the Caf Loebel in the British zone of Berlin on Saturday night killing at least 81 revelers. Eight dead were British soldiers as investigators say the blaze likely started from an overheated stove. Authorities fear the toll may rise as casualty care continues.
John H Strong 76 years old a longtime Linton resident died at 7 39 pm Saturday at his son Charles Strong's home 36u Sixth Street northeast after five months illness. A former carpenter retired fifteen years ago he was born April 18 1855 in College Hill Cincinnati son of Henry and Elizabeth Strong. He moved to Indiana then to Linton July 12 1888. He belonged to the Methodist church and lodges K of P No 211 Carpenters local. Surviving are two sons Charles and Carl Strong one half brother Zebulon Strong one half sister Mrs Grace Anders ten grandchildren and one great great grandchild. His remains were taken to Welch and Cornet Funeral Home. Funeral Tuesday at 2 pm with Rev Powell Forbes. Burial in Fairview cemetery.
The Linton Welders host a Junior High basketball team from Jaseiville in the high school gym this evening. Two games are on the schedule with admission 25 cents for adults and 15 cents for students. The public is invited.

Miss Virginia May Butcher aged 16 died in a wreck at Laporte when the auto she rode in was struck by a New York Central train. Companion Charles Osborn injured. two others unhurt. Survived by parents Thomas and Mrs Butcher, two brothers and three sisters. Funeral at Church of God Jasonville with burial in Lebanon cemetery.
The Civil Aeronautics Administration announced plans to construct or upgrade airports in Linvon Jasonvill Sullivan Bickner and Brazil over the next three years. The projects, 93 in Indiana, will be funded by federal and local sponsors and prioritized as funds become available. Some listed sites do not yet exist or fail to meet Class I requirements with runways from 1600 feet to over 6509 feet.
All offices in the Bloonfield courthouse will close Wednesday in observance of Lincoln's birthday. The offices reopen Thursday morning with normal business hours.
Young women aged 18 to 35 will be interviewed this week at the factory office 99 South Main Street for work in Linton's new industry. Interviews run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday with training as power sewing machine operators, inspectors, and folders. Bloomington Indiana State Employment Service assists in the interviews.
Andrew Jackson Burch is buried in the Solsberry Methodist cemetery after services at the Solsberry church. He died Friday in Freeman Greene County Hospital at age 82. Survived by three children Rollie Purch Arcola Alma Garener Springville Viva Burch and six brothers and a sister. Jenkins Funeral Home Bloomfield directed arrangements.
Funeral services were held at 3:30 PM at Jenkins Funeral Home Bloomfield for Mrs. Louisa McLaughlin who died Saturday. Born November 25 1856 to Abraham and Jane Baughman Anderson she was 91. Survived by daughter Nora Marquand of Denver and three step sons Dalton Indianapolis Heston Goshen Albert W Bloomfield and sister Etta Ferguson. Burial was in Grandview.
The Saturday morning low in Greene County reached two degrees above zero marking a cold snap. Temperatures climbed to 16 degrees that afternoon. Sunday saw a 4 degree low and 16 degree high. By 2 PM Sunday the temperature reached 23 degrees as a warming trend began with forecasted warmer weather for destray.
John Fox aged 34 died of severe head injuries after a fall at the North Wilfred mine two miles east of Shelburn Sullivan County He was a veteran coal miner and longtime civic worker known in Democratic circles He died at Mary Sherman Hospital after an ambulance rushed him from the scene in Jackson township and Wilfred community on Shelburn route
The March of Dimes Infantile Paralysis fund drive in Linton and Stockton township has collected 638.08 to date. Lin ton chairman Harry Haseman and Stockton township chairman Bob McFadden reported today. Linton contributed 467.18 and Stockton township 168.90, excluding Linton. They thanked all contributors for the campaign’s success.
An extra fireman has been hired at Linton Stockton High School to keep the building warm through the night as severe cold makes classrooms uncomfortable. Some forms report temperatures around 50 degrees and classes have moved to alternative rooms while woolen arrangements are used.

Charis Marshal Saclton died of a heart attack Friday afternoon in Koleen. Born February 13, 1978 he was the son of James Anderson and Nancy Catherine Neldon Shelton. Survived by wife Lucy Jane Shelton and five children. Funeral at Koleen Baptist Church 1:30 pm with burial in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Jenkins Funeral Home listed.
Six people injured in a head on collision on State Road 54 near Bloomfield as two autos collided. Victims include Mrs. Charles Devis and Miss Betty Sparks with serious head and hip injuries. Rex Foullon and Charis Davis among others treated at Freeman-Greene County Hospital. Drivers could not explain the crash. investigation ongoing.
Worthington fire chief said a former O L Hoes poultry building at Wor thington became a total loss Friday night with damage estimated at tens of thousands of dollars. Fire departments from Linton and Lyons aided as the blaze fed by half the building. Two poultry trucks were inside. one burned and the other moved with damage. The cause remains unknown and an insurance payout was involved.
The Linva Retail Merchants Association plans a contest for readers of the Daily Citizen. Write a letter on how merchants can improve the city, with 10 to 50 words, mailed to Contes Box 1097 care of the Daily Citizen. Prizes of 5, 3, and 1 dollar will be awarded. Purdue economist J. Carroll Bottum will discuss national agricultural price and income prospects and policies at two meetings in Indiana. At 1:30 p.m. he speaks to local farmers at Switz City school and at 7:30 p.m. to local businessmen at Linton High School. The sessions aid farmers and landowners in planning amid postwar adjustments.
