Members of the Worthington Study Club met at Mrs. JM WH Sloan’s home for a program on The Community as an Educational Factor. Talks covered the civic appeal of art galleries, innovations in public libraries, and equal rights amendments, with discussions on protective legislation and women’s work. Refreshments followed the session.
Mrs. John Robert Meker hosted the Fidelity circle anniversary party at her home on Friday. Luncheon at noon featured a flower centered table and angel and devil's food cakes, followed by a brief business session and jovial games with prizes for Mrs. John Rennie and Mrs. Frank Dafoe. Hostess prize went to Mrs. A. B. McDonald. attendees included Mesdames Rennie, Datoe, Coen, Letsinger, Van Plew, Bipes, Thrasher, Joye, Crogs, Lewis, Meng, McDonald, Kennedy, and others with several regrets.
Switz City February 9 The Stand iny Bearer girls gathered at Mrs John Hancock s home for a hamburger fry honoring Juanita Tiancock s sixteenth birthday A good time was had by all with Bonnie Cullison Bernice Haskett Wilma Miller Mable Freeman Evelyn Vennant Vera Halen Catherine Waggner Joan Neal Nola Bonnie Fines Mildred Mary Ruth Terrell Geneva Scott Geneva Leona Hancock and leaders Mrs Helen Slauter Blanche Justice plus guest Juanita Hancock Also Mrs A H Beck hosted a bridge party at her home entertaining eight members.
Mrs Orville Beasley hosted the W A W club at her country home with two guests Miss Ethel Heitman and Mrs John Wilson. They planned the annual dinner for February 22 at Mrs Lou Fleetwood's home. Bridge produced high prize for Miss Ina Brewer and second for Mrs Karl Skemp. Esther Dunne won the floating prize for eighty honors. Refreshments followed.
A group of friends escorts Miss Frances Adams from school to a Paxton home birthday dinner. A pink angel food cake with twelve candles centered the table, and games followed. Overnight guests included Ella Rubey and Barbary Booker among others, with a marshmallow roast on the Adams farm.
An in memoriam note marks the one year anniversary of Frank Newsom's death in a mine accident. The remembrance prays for his rest with religious imagery and mentions his wife and daughter awaiting peace, while angels guard the sleeper.
Hoosier farmers are adopting better business methods aided by farm record books. An early state report shows 48,388 books distributed to farmers upon request, including 44,245 agricultural adjustment administration books, 890 Indiana farm business books, and 8,263 Purdue farm account books. Distributed through county agents, books help keep complete records for Indiana gross income and taxes, and let farmers check where they profit or lose money.
Buriss chapel notes tell of Mr and Mrs Avery Bennett hosting supper for Bertha and Elva Hardy with daughter Nila Jane. The Ladies Aid met for a quilting session at Mrs Nelle Elis home to make a quilt for Miss Gopnola Padgett. Follow up items include sick lists, visits among neighbors, a fall injuring Nila Jane Bennett, and the community grieving Mrs Ike Underwood’s death.
