Viet Cong end Tet truce with grenade blast in Saigon

A hand grenade during Tet celebrations in Cholon Saigon killed seven people including two police officers and five civilians. Another seven died when a Communist threw a grenade at a Korean artillery post. A U S reconnaissance jet was shot down over North Vietnam but the pilot survived.

Greene County Commissioners Hold Meeting in Bloomfield

The Greene County Board of Commissioners met at the county courthouse in Bloomfield with Commissioners Kra mer Hasler Flory County Auditor William Michael County Attorney Wil liam Hendren and Highway Superintendent Willis Livingston present. They heard about blacktopping a Newberry Scotland road and Smith Jefferson Brown school road and reviewed a request to accept and maintain a Richland Heights road. A drainage board attorney was appointed for 1967 and sewer pipe purchases were approved to repair a washed out road, with bids for sheriff department gasoline awarded to Floyd Petroleum Co at 24.9 cents per gallon.

Local School Band Earns Early Ratings at Terre Haute Contest

William Pirtle directs the Linton Stockton Band and ensembles at Indiana State University Terre Haute. In Class A a brass sextet and two sax trio groups earned firsts and will compete at Butler. Seconds went to the dance band and a trombone solo. In Class B firsts went to a flute solo a flute quartet and a trombone trio with seconds to the flute trio and clarinet quartet. A coronet solo in C class took second.

School Bus Collides with Train in Icy Indiana Route

An icy road sent a school bus into the path of a freight train near North Judson Indiana. The bus was carrying a load of children and the driver Kenneth L Prost 28 of Judson was injured and taken to Memorial Hospital at Knox with chest and leg injuries.
