The Linton city council set a 7 pm special meeting to approve ordinances for a sanitary sewage disposal plant and waterworks improvements. WPA officials will outline federal roles, with 65 WPA workers already on site and engineers ready to present tonight’s planned phases. Local citizens are urged to attend to hear expert explanations.
Greene county agricultural agent Arthur Haseman announced an all day soil conservation and soil management school at Switz City Baptist church on Friday February 11. Purdue specialists G. H. Enfield and R. O. Cole will discuss soil conservation and management and test farmer samples for available phosphorus potash and lime with personalized fertilizer recommendations. Farmers should bring dry soil samples and contact Haseman for details.
Members urged to bring a guest to a 7:30 p m meeting at the local public library featuring an art exhibit from Indiana University extension division led by Miss Gladys Terhune. TheLinton display runs two weeks with eight Medici prints and nine impressionist reproductions from IU artists.
William Dern humorist lecturer and storyteller will headline a banquet Thursday evening in Linton. The event, organized by the Greater Linton club and the local Business and Professional Women's club, will start at 6 20 p m at the Saton Reformed church with plans for a large attendance.
Linton High School hosts Pleasantville in the final home game of the season with the Blue Streaks aiming to upset the Lin-tonians. The New Albany game shifts to Friday February 18 on the New Albany floor.

In Russia a large dirigible on a test flight bound to aid four scientists adrift near Greenland crashed into a mountain near Kandalaksha, killing thirteen of an eighteen man crew. Three ice breakers raced to reach the scientists as visibility faltered and the mission faced critical delays.
Washington February 8 The House started consideration of the conference report on the farm bill with Rep Joseph W Martin attacking a rule that barred points of order against the bill He called the restriction insulting to members insisting on four hour final decisions on soil conservation and marketing quotas He noted conferees from Senate and House spent six weeks reaching agreement.
Capone, the former Chicago gangster, suffered a mental collapse at Alcatraz and will be moved to a federal institution in the East for treatment. He allegedly lashed out at convicts, kicked others, and spent hours altering his bed.
Mrs. Martha McDonald lectures at the Happy Kitchen Cooking School in the Grand theater Linton on February 10 11 and 12 at 2 PM admission free. She demonstrates dressing up common foods to delight the palate and lift routine dinners. A benefit bridge euchre party for Freeman Greene county hospital funds begins 8 PM Wednesday in the old hospital with Tri Kappa hosting tickets at door and from members.
Funeral services for Mrs. Helena Daubenspeck 85 east of Switz City will be held Wednesday at 2 after she died Monday in Switz City. Rev Russell Taylor of Farmersburg will officiate. Burial will follow in Bullerman cemetery southeast of Switz City. Her body was moved from Welch and Cornett funeral home in Linton to the family residence east of Switz City.
John Timmons of Bloomfield reported to Linton City police that his red Chevrolet roadster with license 212,677 was stolen from the city around 10 o clock last night.
Secretary of State Cordell Hull answered three questions in a Senate letter, stating there is no alliance with any power and no agreement for use of the navy or patrols. The inquiry, pushed by Sen. Johnson, aimed to dispel rumors of foreign entanglements. In Amoy, Chinese reports claim a Japanese blockade warned of destruction if the city did not surrender, fearing airplane attacks amid limited defenses.

James Harvey Higgins 65, longtime Highland township resident, was found dead in his chair. County coroner Dr. George C. Porter attributed the death to heart disease. He died at his son Harvey Higgins’s home. Survived by Landis Higgins, Mildred Cowan, and Bonnie Kennedy. Funeral at Calvertville church Wednesday at 10. Burial in Prairie cemetery, Washington The Kiddee in Bloomfield in charge of arrangements.
