American Fourth and other divisions crossed into Germany from Luxembourg along a 22 mile front north of Echternach. Allied forces seized bridgeheads on the Our and Sure rivers and pressed into the Siegfried Line amid heavy fire from defending Nazi troops.

Robert Hamlin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Hamlin of Bloomfield, had a major operation last night. Wendell Davis 13, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus Davis of Springville, also had a major operation last night. Betty Wethers of Worthington underwent a minor operation this morning. Wilma Bedwell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anzel Bedwell, was admitted for observation. Paul Eugene Poorman was discharged yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Robert L. Flory and baby of Bloomfield were discharged home yesterday. Walter Gillespie of Jasonville was discharged yesterday.

A wartime bulletin notes Russian forces advanced beyond the Oder river in the Berlin region, with Moscow reports claiming bridgeheads near Kengtrin. Soviet units reportedly pushed 12 to 15 miles and sought to encircle Breslau while threatening Berlin from the south.
Mrs. Elizabeth Hawtin of Jasonville R1 learns her son Pfc Herman L. Hawtin was slightly wounded in action on January 20 in Belgium. He entered service two years ago and has been overseas for a year. His wife and daughter reside in Jasonville.
Japanese shells hit Santo Tomas and Bilibid internment camps in Manila as bombardment continued through the day. Internees and POWs remained in shelters while mop up operations continued inside the city. A direct hit struck the Santo Tomas main university building and another hit was reported near Bilibid’s entrance.
