A five day blizzard blanketed the Southwest with up to 30 inches of snow and at least 30 deaths across Texas Oklahoma and New Mexico. Weekend fires in Indiana killed six people including four children trapped in Gary and two adults in Indianapolis and North Vernon. Losses included a $2,000,000 fire at Durham Manufacturing in Muncie and a $150,000 to $200,000 timber/fire at Frankfort.

Six people died in Indiana weekend accidents with trees blamed in five deaths. Two double fatality crashes occurred when cars struck trees in southern Indiana near Bloomington and Liberty. Two Fines Imposed Two Mishaps Occur
In Linton City Police court two motorists were fined after accidents in the community. Jackie Lee Dean, 17, of Bloomfield route four, slept at the wheel and struck a boulevard light and hydrant, fined for reckless driving. Clay Jett of Carlisle was fined for overloading a truck. A second accident on Saturday on state road 59 54 involved Herbert A. Koonce and James Leslie Rutledge with extensive damage to both cars.
