The Indiana State Fair Board agreed to host a goat show by the Indiana Milk Goat Association in a separate tent after debate about goat odor. The anecdote follows other remarks on politics including Landon and Eisenhower with commentary on war and peace.
Art Taylor rolled a 627 three game total to top the local City league at Linton alleys. Notable scores include Linton Lions-Hebb 520 Hart ing 439 Ferry 418 Trinkle 479 J Hamm 489 and Walford Flower Gardens with Taylor 627. The standings show 2 1 records for several teams.
Members of Boy Scout Troop No 57 and their families are invited to a covered dish dinner at the Methodist church Monday evening at 6 30. A program is planned and good attendance is desired.
The Linton Stockton high school Mothers club will meet at the home of Mrs. Winston Mur dock Tuesday evening at 7 o'clock. Members should bring items for the white elephant sale and money for Christmas cards. Officers will be elected.
Members of the Business and Professional Women's club joined Greater Linton club for a Thursday evening at Odd Fellows Hall where Indiana University professor Garrett Eppley spoke on recreation. Committees were named and officers listed as plans for monthly meetings were announced.
Local Rebekah lodge members were reminded of a covered dish luncheon at the Odd Fellows hall on Tuesday February 10. The notice urged all members to attend.
Members of the Chikateth Council will hold a Valentine party in the Red Men hall here Monday evening at 7 o'clock. Members are asked to bring valentines and fruit and all members are urged to attend.
The Senate banking committee reviews a Republican rent control bill that would extend controls to April 30, 1949 and allow unlimited increases after December 31 for about 1.7 million tenants who accepted voluntary 15 percent boosts last year. The measure, approved 4-0 by the subcommittee, shifts administration to Housing Expediter Tighe E. Woods and faces House and Senate votes amid criticism of penalties on voluntary renters.
The Lyons Wildcats fall 56-32 at Scotland after a 48-44 loss to Newberry. Newberry’s Roac 22 led scoring with Wesner Guthrey Autrey and York also contributing, while Lyons’ Cone Justus and Frazer imposed early pace in spurts.
Funeral services for Mrs. Cora A. Robinson age 82 who died at 11 o clock Wednesday night at her son Herman Lovelace’s home on Dagger Route One will be held at 2 o clock Sunday afternoon at Bethel Methodist church with Rev. Mr Suddarth officiating. Burial will follow in Morris Chapel cemetery the body to be removed at 4 o clock Saturday afternoon to the son’s Gambill community home.
Gen. Otto von Stulpnagel, 70, former German military governor of Paris, hanged himself in his Cherche-Mill prison cell to avoid interrogation on war crimes charges before a Paris tribunal. He had been accused of a reign of terror in Paris and was to be questioned at Reuilly Barracks.
Two marriage licenses were issued in Bloomfield. Couples: Joseph H Stefanski and Rosemary Bledsoe of Jasonville. Wilbur Riddle of Bloomfield and Grace Turnbull of Linton. A divorce suit was filed: John Ellett versus Gayle Ellett.
Mrs. Sarah Bolt of Linton brought to the Daily Citizen a photograph of a much painted Indian missionary taken by Robert Park of Springfield Ohio at Calcutta. Mr. Park spent five years in the country during World War II.
The Veterans Administration announces local outpatient medical care for service connected disabilities at VA expense. Wallace B. Blue says veterans may receive treatment in home communities, often from family doctors, with prior VA authorization. The VA office assists with treatment, hospitalization, benefits, education, and other federal and state entitlements.
Robert A. Watts, an African American truck driver convicted of murdering an Indianapolis woman, will seek a new trial. His attorney argues the grand jury was prejudiced and lacked Black representation for 40 years and notes two doctors found Watts sane two months after the crime.
State ABC committee announced bock beer may go on sale at seven in the morning on Saint Patrick's Day. Dr. Burrell E. Diefendorf, ABC chairman, urged brewers and wholesalers to withhold deliveries until close to the legal date to ensure proper timing.
In Indianapolis and Cincinnati a hammer slaying of Mrs. Cora Lee Siefker, 55, is investigated. Lloyd D. Siefker, 24, surrendered in Cincinnati saying he killed his mother, while police linked a bloodstained alarm clock and a copy of Murder Up My Sleeve to the case.
Scoutmaster Ken Coleman invites all Boy Scouts of Troop 57 to help construct two semaphore towers at the camp. Meeting is Saturday at 8:30 AM in the Methodist church basement. Scouts should bring a hammer saw and food for noon meal and will place towers on strategic hills for daytime semaphore signaling and nighttime Morse code with flashlights.
Mitchell Indiana February 6 Officials said a $140000 garment factory will begin construction soon to employ about 150 workers. The Reliance Manufacturing company signed a contract to build the plant, joining the existing Reliance plant which now employs about 300 workers.
The Bloomfield Evening World held a New Year’s baby contest with prizes for the first baby born to a couple within the city limits. Dexter Bays and his wife welcomed a son born Thursday at Freeman-Greene County Hospital, marking the first eligible infant for the prize. The event highlights local civic pride amid a nationwide market downturn as grain prices fell sharply.
Greene county students from Linton Bloomfield Worthington Switz City and Midland high schools compete in the Indiana School Music Association district solo and ensemble contest at Indiana University on February 7. Solo events feature piano voice twirling drums strings woodwinds and brass with University faculty judges and two named ensembles entered.

A son was born Thursday to Mrs. Edith Baker of Newberry named Don Robert. Robert Dale Cardinal of Linton rural route was admitted Thursday. Miss Deneane Fisher of Linton and Miss Shebby Jean Clark had tonsillectomies. Several residents including Mrs. Eliza Ramsey and Laurel Enochs were admitted for treatment. Various patients were dismissed or taken home to Bloomington, Jacksonville, Bloomfield, Worthington, Crane, and other towns.
Joe Ezra of Jasonville was the only Greene County millman to see action in Terre Haute in the Golden Gloves tournament. He fought in the 135 pound novice division and stopped Stevens in the second round after an early rally, the referee halting the bout at 1 minute 57 seconds.
Albert Brown a Hymera resident and World War II veteran died at Boehme hospital Evansville at 1 pm Wednesday. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 pm at the family residence in Hymera with burial in the K of P cemetery.
