James O'Brien, aged 14, was bitten on the arm by a brown snake while hunting near Brisbane. With no knife to scarify, he fired a pea rifle into the wound, his mother sucked out the venom, and he went to hospital where he quickly recovered.
A heated battle over a proposed joint Senate House committee to draft a new liquor act flared in Indiana House. Rep George Wolf called for 12 members from each party to craft a new law, replacing the current Republican measure eliminating the beer importer system. GOP leaders pushed re enacting the Nicholson law from before Prohibition causing sharp splits and upcoming fierce debates.
James Pop Pennigar former Linton resident dies at his daughter Delia Spice’s home in Chula Vista California. He formerly ran a saloon at Main and Vincennes before moving to St Louis and later California. Survived by son Max and daughters Jessie Stroub and Delia Spice. Funeral details unavailable.
Brazil postmaster William H. Houk has been notified of reappointment by Senators Frederick Van Nuys and Sherman Minton. He was first recommended by former Congressman Arthur H. Greenwood.
Federal Judge George A. Welsh, who sold newspapers to fund Temple College in the early 1900s, has been elected a vice president of Temple University.
In Portland Maine two enterprising 11 year old boys sawed off the top of a 25 foot evergreen on Arthur S. Jordan’s lawn causing the prized tree to topple in halves. The incident was reported as an act of mischief amid a quiet neighborhood scene.
Five employees of The Daily Citizen mechanical department suffered minor cuts and bruises after their car left the road two miles north of Worthington and overturned while en route to Spen cer to visit the mid-Land Press plant. All injuries were listed as minor and insurance covered the vehicle damage.
Hattie Ruth Reaser aged 39 was to face arraignment in Allen Circuit Court for the Dec 16 knife murder of her three year old son Alfred Junior Reaser. She has been jailed without bond since the slaying and once attempted suicide in her cell. Officials say she killed Alfred and wounded her other son Martin, 5, to prevent removal of the children. she had separated from her fourth husband a week earlier.
Members will hold their regular monthly meeting at noon Wednesday in Jasonville with a covered dish luncheon. A bus will depart Linton Democratic headquarters at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday. All county members are urged to attend.
Marjorie Bland of Solsberry route 1 and her 13 year old daughter, Harvey Bland’s child, underwent a major operation this afternoon. Mrs. John Mitchell was admitted Saturday for treatment. Mrs. Floyd McCullough was taken to her home Sunday. Mrs. Roll Hannum was moved to her home this morning. Charles Foote of Palestine Illinois was dismissed from the hospital Saturday. Mrs. Lon Roach was taken to her home this afternoon.
Four Linton residents escaped serious injuries when their car collided with a coal truck near Earlington Kentucky in dense fog en route to Madisonville. Mrs. Earl Mitchell Mrs. Ward Padgett and Mr and Mrs Cotton Hale suffered minor cuts while a third car struck the wreckage. Insurance covered $150 car damage.
Members of Carpenter's Local Union No. 487 will meet at 7 00 o'clock Tuesday evening in the K of P hall in this city. All members urged to be present by Charles Anderson, president.
Police seek a group suspected in three more weekend robberies at Linton Hardware Mallcoat Baxley Electric and a Standard Oil filling station at Twelfth and A streets northeast. Cigarettes and merchandise taken from the filling station. police believe the same suspects hit Greenway cafe Gem Five and Ten and Stewart and Boston Shoe. No arrests reported.
Harry Welch of this city was summoned to Indianapolis to help arrange the funeral for his aunt Mrs. Anna Chester who died there. Final rites are set for 1:50 PM Tuesday at Flanner and Buchanan Mortuary in Indianapolis with burial in Crown Hill Cemetery.
The Senate voted 72 to 9 to reject President Roosevelt s nomination of Floyd H Roberts to the Western District of Virginia federal bench. Virginia Senators Carter Glass and Harry Byrd labeled the choice personally obnoxious and sustained the charge.

Cincinnati detectives hunt a contractor after Willard Armstrong 58 was clubbed and suffocated in his Norwood apartment. Investigators seek ties to a saved four thousand dollar home fund and possible appointment with the contractor. Armstrong’s wife found the body. about 275 dollars in cash and securities were missing. He was a former Linton resident born in the city. survived by wife Jessie, a brother, and an uncle.
Dugger resident Ernest A. Hammack age 58 died at 6 30 this morning at his home after eleven months of illness. He was born in Freelandville and spent most of his life in Dugger where he worked as a coal miner for 51 years. Hammack was a member of the Masonic lodge and Order of Eastern Star and active in the Dugger Church of Christ. He is survived by his widow Verna Hammack, a brother Ebert Hammack of Sullivan, four sisters Esther McLin and Mrs Charles Mason of Dugger, Rose Mason of Bloomfield, Mrs William Dean of Chandler, and a sister in law Mrs G W Downey of Gross Point Mich. Funeral arrangements are pending word from Michigan relatives. Graveside services will be held under Dugger Masonic lodge auspices. The body was moved from M J Aikin and Son funeral home to the Hammack home.
Miss Betty Duke, a patient at Riley Hospital in Indianapolis, is reported to be getting along fine. The brief note indicates continued improvement while under medical care.
