Amos Alonzo Stagg was aboard and unharmed.
News reports confirm Dov Gruner, an underground leader, faces execution on February 18. Gruner rejected appeals and refused to acknowledge British authority as Jerus lem holds fortifications and troops. His sister Helen Friedman from Lancaster may seek clemency.

Other patients taken home include Mrs Lertha helms, Emil Laughlin, and Martha Mahan in Shelburn.
Joe Saucerman known as Uncle Joe, 89, lifelong Sullivan county resident, died at his Dugger home at 9 this morning. Born March 19, 1861 in Cass township, he married Rebecca Brodie in 1886 and celebrated sixty years of marriage in December 1946. Survived by widow, two daughters Lizzie Morris and Cleve Lewellyn, one son Orville, and eight grandchildren. Body sent to Newkirk Funeral Home in Pleasantville. funeral plans pending.
Assistant Attorney General John F. Sennett said government will pursue the portal pay test case to the U S Supreme Court regardless of the outcome. In Lafayette Indiana Cecil Isbell Purdue coach met Baltimore officials and said they are considering him for head coach, though he was unsure about taking the job. In Atlanta Governor Talmadge testified legislators were given a mandate from Georgians to keep Negroes from voting in Democratic primaries. In Newark a twin engined army bomber crashed at Newark Airport killing the pilot and co pilot after a radio report engine trouble. the plane dipped and crashed in the southeast corner of the field.
One row suit was placed on file and two marriage licenses were issued today at the Greene circuit court. The suit filed is Bernail Rose versus Frank Turpin, complaint in ejectment. Marriage licenses went to Joseph N. Phillips of Linton and Louise Fern Marshall of Jasonville, Earl Canady of Lyons and Helen Canady of Switz City.

A 14 year old Hoosier boy confessed to shooting his grandfather and beating his grandmother with a .22 rifle after an argument over a car. The grandfather, Roy C. Mr and Mrs Melvin Strietelmeier announce the birth of a daughter weighing seven pounds seven ounces born February 1. The baby has been named Jeanette Marie. Mr Strietelmeier is the son of Fred Strietelmeier of Linton route 1 and formerly lived here.
Daviess Circuit Court Grand Jury will investigate the death of Earl Way a Washington cab operator after Amel Davey former cabbie told police he shot Way and will plead self defense. Davey bound over on murder charge. George Arthur Morgan granted continuance in manslaughter case. Miss Helen Wilson to face trial March 4 for acid attack.
The Dugger Bulldogs rallied in the final eight minutes to beat the Graysville Greyhounds 40-36 in a high school basketball game at Graysville. Butler led Dugger with 14 points, J Burton scored 18 for Graysville, and McClellan added 10 for Dugger. The Bullpups had won their opener 32-13.
Indiana lawmakers prepare two tax bills to raise over 11 million dollars annually. A three cent cigarette tax would earmark funds for a state health program. A one percent use tax would apply to out of state purchases, with controls on mail order sales. A payroll deduction tax at city county level may also be discussed.
Forty three firefighters were treated at three Chicago hospitals after inhaling dense chlorine gas during a blaze that destroyed the Dell Tire Co and Sterne & Maley Co buildings. More than 300 firefighters battled the near zero cold for three hours before gaining control shortly before midnight. Sixteen firemen, including Deputy Fire Marshall Dahl, were admitted to St. Anthony’s Hospital. twenty six others went to Mercy and Evangelical hospitals. Student nurses and hospital staff aided the injured, with oxygen therapy and beds allocated for the patients.
A flash fire destroyed a two story condemned tenement near Hammond headquarters killing Mrs. Millie Ming and Leroy Thompson and leaving three missing while 26 residents were found alive. Fire officials warned the blaze could have claimed more lives. Temperatures plunged across Indiana with zero readings in Marion and Indianapolis and only single digits elsewhere as cold weather continued.
The Civil Service Commission announced that federal employment fell from 3,770,000 before V J Day to 2,277,000 by December 31, 1946. Domestic staff dropped to 1,980,475, a 935,000 decline, with potential further cuts. Seventeen emergency agencies were eliminated or reduced, cutting 170,000 jobs at peak.

Alfires University students faced inflation as three town eateries raised coffee to ten cents while 1,500 students were away. Two weeks later the remaining five cent shop kept that price and the strike ended with coffee at five cents again in Alfred New York.
