Frank Murphy was sworn as associate justice of the Supreme Court in a White House ceremony. The 46 year old former attorney general was Roosevelt’s fifth court appointee, slated to aid a New Deal interpretation of the constitution. He will sit beside Justice Felix Frankfurter on the left end of the bench.
Plainville Midgets beat Linton 55 39 as Clark and Bissey lead with 15 and 12 points while Arthur tops Linton with seven. Linton B team also defeats Plainville B 28 24, extending their win streak to 13.
Turner McGhee 79 a retired coal miner died at 5 45 PM Sunday at his home south of Dugger after three weeks illness. Born in Virginia he moved to Sandborn then Dugger and worked in coal mines for decades. Survived by wife Etta and five sons Walter Ray Clifford Dewey Basil. Funeral 2 00 PM Wednesday at family home with Rev J R Clark Dugger Church of Christ officiating. Burial in Dugger cemetery.
Phillip Wayne Brinson three and a half months old died at 11 the morning at his grandparents home in Vicksburg after a brief illness. He is survived by his parents and four grandparents Raleigh Brinson William Clark and their spouses. The Welch and Cornett Funeral home of Linth is in charge of arrangements.
The Linton Daily Citizen promotes the Happy Kitchen Cooking School to be held Thursday Friday and Saturday in the Cine theatre building from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Miss Gertrude Burbank, noted home economist, will address budgeting shopping and cooking with daily tips and practical household hints for homemakers and businesswomen.
Hospital report lists several patients from Jasonville Worthington Heltonville Bloomfield and nearby areas. Major operation for Mrs Robert Sloan of Worthington this morning. Others admitted for treatment after accidents or illness with several discharged home by Sunday. Continuous updates indicate returning home for several patients.
The Ralph Waldo Emerson and Louisa May Alcott stamps from the famous Americans series go on sale tomorrow at the Linton post office. Postmaster Charles Wolford announced the release.
Dr. Edwin B. Bailey son of Mr and Mrs Frank Bailey of East Vincennes street submitted to a frontal sinus operation at University hospital Indianapolis Saturday morning. His condition is reported as satisfactory.
The 1940 Community Chest drive opened at 9 a m with a breakfast for team captains and members at the Linton Elks Home on Main Street. Elkin C Turner, drive chairman, announced good response as the campaign begins with a $2000 quota and will run until Saturday February 10.
The regular meeting at Mrs Clarence Lucas home was moved from Wednesday to February 21. All members were asked to note the new date.

The second meeting runs 10 a m to 3 p m Thursday Feb 8 at Switz City Baptist Church focusing on grasses and legumes for livestock, soil erosion, and hay and pasture profitability with M O Pence and local farmers. The third event, Feb 13, is a farm management school at Lyons high school led by Sherman Kessler and county leaders. Public attendance is encouraged for all sessions.
Mrs. Pearl Suthard of Linton Greene county died at Freeman Greene County hospital at 1 50 am after a week of illness. She was born May 7 1887 in Solsberry and lived in Greene county all her life. Survived by husband Rufus Luthach two daughters Esther Mason Indianapolis and Horace Carrico Detroit four stepchildren Razel Houchin Robert Young Clayborn Stuhard Clara Long eight grandchildren four step grandchildren. Funeral arrangements by Welch and Cornett Funeral Home with service Tuesday afternoon at 2 00 conducted by Rev. R J Staats burial in Fairview cemetery.
Four people from Jasonville were injured when a Kirkpatrick bread truck rear ended their southbound auto on state road 59 near Bethel corner. The car struck a bridge and agregó a ditch side, with three adults and an infant taken to Freeman Greene hospital for treatment. Olin Michaels, his wife, and two sons suffered multiple injuries while the infant remained unharmed. Police investigator Joe Feeney said the incident occurred Saturday afternoon and both vehicles were heavily damaged.
Joe E. Turner of Linton was among thirty guests who fled the Cohn-Barnard sanitarium in Martinsville when a Sunday morning blaze destroyed the large building. Guests in night clothing rushed from their rooms as flames spread, with some losing possessions. Sanitarium proprietor M. H. Cohn estimated damage at 50 000 dollars. Two firefighters were slightly hurt in a three hour effort to save the structure.

The Greene County Board of Commissioners met in Bloomfield for February with three banks Citizens National Linton Peoples Trust Worthington State Bank Worthington submitting sealed bids to loan 5000 each on tax anticipation warrants. The board also approved hiring additional counsel and named Paul Haywood as counsel. Dave Suthard resigned from the miners examination board and William Moy was appointed to fill the unexpired term.
