Fire swept the General Telephone Co offices and exchange in downtown Richmond causing major damage and disrupting service to the area. The blaze began at 7 a.m. and burned two hours before being controlled as fire departments from nearby Ohio and Indiana towns assisted. One firefighter was injured and most staff escaped. the roof collapsed about an hour after the fire started.
