Navy teams face one or two more days of wind delays before attempting a Vanguard rocket launch at Cape Canaveral. Jetstream winds 160 to 180 mph at altitude hinder plans to loft a 6 inch space ball, while Army Explorer moon passed can be tracked elsewhere.
Avery Anderson Beck 85 lifelong Worthington Switz City area resident died at his home after a lingering illness. He was born August 18 1872 and lived on farms most of his life. Survived by wife Effie Haltom Beck two sons Paul Evansville and George Covington a brother James Switz City five grandchildren and one great grandchild. Body to Myers Funeral Home Worthington. Funeral plans pending.
Adam Cotter Sr. of Linton and H. L. Hannah Sr. of Bloomfield were appointed by Judge Edwin B. Long to serve on the Greene County Board of Review. Cotter is the Democratic member and Hannah the Republican member. The board will review assessments at an annual session in June at the county courthouse.
Thomas Stitt, 28, of Indianapolis, was killed when his car skidded into an embankment along U S 31 six miles north of Peru. He was thrown from the vehicle as it overturned. His cousin David Stitt, 29, of Kokomo, sustained multiple injuries and was taken to Fort Benjamin Harrison. David is an airman at Lake Charles Air Force Base Louisiana.
The report notes temperatures in Indiana ranged from seven to thirteen degrees in various cities with a cold snap at seven in Greene County and seven to thirteen in major cities. Forecasters expect sunny skies lifting readings to the mid thirties in the northeast and upper thirties elsewhere with rain or snow possible Tuesday.
The National Safety Council cited Kokomo and Indianapolis as leading U.S. cities for traffic safety in 1957. Kokomo posted a perfect death free record alongside Lynn and Great Falls, while Indianapolis reported 1.6 deaths per 10 000 registered vehicles in its population bracket. Indiana showed a statewide 5 percent drop in fatalities from the prior year.

Two Franklin men were killed when their car failed to slow at an intersection three miles west of Whiteland. Clifford James, 25, died of a broken neck and Herman Coates, 22, suffered a skull fracture.
George Douglas Stahl 96, retired farmer and Worthington pioneer, died at 7:15 PM Monday at his daughter's home. Born August 28, 1861 in Smith township, he lived his life near Worthington. Survived by wife, two daughters, two sons, two brothers, 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren. Funeral at Myers Funeral Home Thursday 10:30 AM with Rev. Miller and Rev. Marsh. burial in Walker Cemetery.
Bloomfield Linton Solsberry Switz City Lyons and Worthington high schools send 1500 musicians from 31 central and southern Indiana schools to the district solo and ensemble contest at Indiana University on February 8. First division winners advance to the state contest in Indianapolis February 22.
Linton's retail merchants met at J. C. Penney to outline the first 1958 Dollar Days set for February 19 and 20. They also announced plans to elect new officers at the next meeting on March 4.

A search of nearby houses found no trace and officials admitted they had no idea where the pair went.
Jerry Myers a 19 year old of Linton route two suffered a fractured right leg in an accident on state road 59 between Linton and Sandborn. State Policeman George Campbell reported Myers was a passenger in a car driven by Jerry L Mullis who lost control and rammed into a ditch. Mullis pled guilty to reckless driving at a magistrate hearing and was fined 25.75 dollars with license revocation for one year while Myers received hospital treatment for the leg and minor injuries.
The White River Valley chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society tentatively set Sunday April 13 for its charter presentation. Twenty five area residents signed as charter members. attendees included Fred Gregory of Brazil and Al Howard of Mooreville. The group will meet again Monday February 17 for rehearsal.
Indiana appellate judge Donald E. Bowen will speak at the Republican Lincoln Day dinner in Hartford City on Wednesday night.
