Lyons Lions defeated Switz City 25-24 in a closely contested game at Lyons High. Bloomfield Cardinals rallied to beat Midland 25-21, while State High of Terre Haute overcame Jasonville 28-22. Heaton Hord Richeson led Bloomfield. Terrell Cahal led Jasonville. Jones sparked Lyons late.
About 300 small business men from six counties in Indiana staged a strike seeking a gross income tax rate cut to one quarter of one percent and a $3,000 exemption. The Munsee foods council sponsored meeting adopted the resolution saying they would pay no tax until a new law is enacted, affecting roughly 2,200 retailers in Delaware Randolph Blackford Jay and Madison counties.

Nine fishermen were drowned when a squall hit a fleet of twenty oyster boats off Chesapeake bay in the Choptank river late last night. Three boats capsized during the Incident as rescue efforts were underway.
A 30 ton U S army bomber, described as the world's biggest, departed Langley Field Virginia at 6 33 a m for a 4400 mile flight to Chile. The crew consists of five officers and six enlisted men and the mission is to deliver medical supplies for earthquake victims.
Rex Bush, 20, convicted of killing Marshal Neal D. Fowler in Clyde, Ohio, paid off a 12 cent bet after fearing death. Jurors recommended mercy but Common Pleas Judge A V Baumann set a life sentence without parole within three days.

Beasley leads Sullivan with 13 points while Dugan scores 9 for Linton as Dugger next hosts the Miners in a tough Valley matchup. Local B team also routs Golden Arrow 21 10 as reinforcements for next season emerge.
Otis Myers, 35, of 289 E street northeast, sustained a fractured left leg and fractured hip in an accident at the Morgan Company stripper mine west of Linton. A drag-line shovel gear entangled his trouser leg, twisting his leg. X rays show fractures. condition is listed as satisfactory at Freeman-Greene County hospital.
Winter floods threaten the Ohio and Tennessee river valleys with rising waters. William E. Dobbs of Greene County is found dead from an acute heart attack in Bloomfield. Coroner’s investigation and funeral arrangements are noted along with regional flood developments in Cincinnati and surrounding areas.
Linton police investigated a string of attempted thefts last night targeting Greenway cafe, Stewart and Boston shoe repair, and Gem Five and Ten store. Only coins were taken from the cafe, while locks were forced at adjacent shops but entry failed. a broken window at the Gem Five and Ten led to the door being unlocked from inside. Local authorities called it the work of local talent.
Isaac W. Moore aged 64, former Linton resident, died of heart disease. He had lived in Bicknell for 34 years and belonged to the L O O F lodge. Survived by widow, two daughters, and one sister Mia. Clay Moss of Brazil.
