Gov. Ronald Reagan and his wife announced plans to leave the 89 year old executive mansion in Sacramento citing fire hazard concerns. The decision follows a safety assessment and the couple said they will seek a safer residence.
Sullivan police report the Brown Jewelry Store was broken into at 3:30 a.m. A rear glass window was shattered to enter and exit through the same opening. About sixty watches and several hundred dollars in rings and merchandise were stolen from front display cases.
Legion officials at Linton urge anyone with wheel chairs walkers or crutches to return unused items to the American Legion Post No 22. Officials note strong demand and express eagerness that all aids are in use. Delegates are reminded of a district meeting at the Edinburg post this Sunday.
Plans are complete for a Food Fashion Fair cooking school at the National Guard Armory at 7 30 p m Tuesday February 7. Miss Janet Krupa of Akron Ohio will lead the program as a noted lecturer demonstrator. She will prepare menus stage setup and food samples for door prizes and will discuss menu ideas meal planning and food pairings. There is no admission charge.
Sullivan authorities announce the fourth Cracker Barrel session of the Indiana General Assembly to meet Saturday at noon at Elks Country Club Sullivan. Attending are Senators Jack Mankin and Herman Fanning Representatives Frederick T. Bauer William Brighton Jack Neaderheiser Sullivan Mayor Herman Smith and Dan Parker who will co chair.
Washington. The National Park Service seeks additional funds in Congress for the George Rogers Clark National Historical Park at Vincennes. The request surpasses the amount proposed by President Johnson as new appropriations pace the project needs.
Indiana lawmakers consider a trunkline plan to raise about 70 million dollars yearly through a 1 cent gasoline tax hike and reallocating a portion of auto sales tax revenues. The measure aims to speed up road construction with 22.5 million in state funds and federal dollars, targeting urban and primary routes amid a slow federal program withdrawal.

President Johnson hinted that he might suspend U S air attacks on North Vietnam if Hanoi makes a firm direct offer to negotiate. He said final settlement will require concessions from both sides and noted no serious effort by the other side to halt the fighting.
Jasonville Mayor Gene Inman announced schedules for city government meetings. The Jasonville City Council will meet Monday at 7 p.m. in city hall to discuss plans for spring street work. The Jasonville Water Board will convene Saturday February 11 at 10 a.m. in the Utility office.

Snow in the far north should melt as record storms ease. highs reach around 40 in the upstate on Saturday and mid 40s to near 50 in other areas.
Former Indiana Secretary of State John Bottorff addressed Greene County Young Democrats at St. Peter's Hall in Linton. Bottorff, now Executive Secretary of the Indiana Real Estate Commission, discussed a bill to lower the voting age to 19 and noted it would require two legislative passages and a voter referendum for the 1970 election, potentially allowing 19 year olds to vote in 1972. About 90 people attended, with representation across ages and area high school classes. Refreshments followed the meeting.
