Syria Egypt form new government Yemen will join
Syria and Egypt announce a new unified government while Yemen plans to join the Syro-Egyptian union. Cairo reports say the consolidation strengthens Gamal Nasser’s Arab neutralism drive and adds pressure on Iraq and regional liberation movements. Crown Prince Mohammed Seif al Iswan al Badr was en route to Cairo to declare adherence. Saudi Arabia’s stance unclear. Egyptian sources expect internal stabilization and parliamentary and military integration across the union.

Accused Slayer and Cellmate Sought After Jail Break
More than 30 lawmen hunted Arthur Karr and John Stilinovich after they fled Lake County Jail in Gary. Porchlight drive planned in Greene county for March of Dimes
A Greene county March of Dimes porchlight drive will be held Tuesday evening in Linton from 8 to 9 and in Lyons at the same time. Linton Kiwanis members will conduct the event in Linton, while the Lyons American Legion Women’s Auxiliary leads in Lyons. Former Worthington Resident Althea Jewell Dies at 69
Mrs. Althea Jewell of Chicago Illinois died at a Chicago nursing home after a lingering illness. She was born near Worthington September 15 1883 and moved to Chicago years ago. Funeral services were held at Myers Funeral Home Worthington with Dr Strang officiating and burial in Worthington cemetery. Survived by three daughters a sister and four grandchildren. husband William Henry Jewell died in 1934.

Five Die In Indiana Weekend Of Vehicle Crashes
At least five people were killed on Indiana streets and highways during the 54 hour weekend. Bert Embrey a 25 year old Jasper High School music teacher died Friday night when his car skidded and crashed on Ind 257 near Washington. George Whitaker 30 of Columbia City was found dead Sunday morning after a wreck on Ind 14 near Silvet Lake. Joan W Strickland 52 of Fairborn Ohio was killed when her car swerved into a truck on US 40 near Cumberland. Joe Sherman 39 and Emery Clark 40 both of Covington died in a Sunday night crash on Ind 63. Raymond Cox 24 of Seelyville and his wife Dolores 19 were injured and hospitalized in Danville Illinois.

Six People Injured In Greene County Vehicle Crashes
Six persons were injured, one seriously, across three Greene County accidents last weekend and today. A Solsberry school bus and a General Baking bread truck collided on a hill near Solsberry injuring two girls and James Loudermilk, with about 2000 dollars in damage. A Weddle truck and a northbound Pigg truck collided on state road 59 injuring Ernest Weddle and prompting charges for Pigg. Wiles wreck on state road 54 left him with a fractured shoulder and his car demolished. Harlan Boyd Jr and Shelby Cox were treated for minor injuries.

Shelton Funeral Held in Lyons for Oscar Greene Shelton
Oscar Greene Shelton aged 75, longtime Lyons resident and retired farmer, died at Freeman-Greene county hospital after a lingering illness. Born October 23, 1882 in Koleen, he moved to Lyons 36 years ago. He is survived by two daughters Naomi Gehring and Ruth Meurer, a son Thomas, a brother Willie Shelton, and 12 grandchildren. The funeral was held at Lyons Methodist Church with Rev. James Boyie officiating. burial followed at Bohley Nine Mile Cemetery.

Fire at the Elnora Paper Converters plant on Saturday caused total loss of the factory built in 1946. About 300000 pounds of raw stock and 4000 bundles of finished goods were destroyed along with all machinery. Four workers escaped injury as departments from Elnora and Odon prevented spread.
