Miami, Feb 3. The AFL executive council approved a report by a special committee seeking peace with the CIO but no action was taken against CIO unions suspended by the federation. President Green planned a night meeting with 16 council members to discuss the issue with John L. Lewis. Washington, Feb 3. Lt Gov Hayes of Colorado told the United Mine Workers that one of its members may become president and praised John L. Lewis as a capable man for the White House. The convention adjourned after Lewis pledged to continue the CIO drive.

Blond bandit Burris shot dead after sixth robbery in Washington
Robert Burris, 22, dubbed the blond bandit, was killed by Luther Fleenor, a Washington grocer, when Burris tried to rob the Fleenor home. Burris had staged five prior holdups, including one of Representative Arthur Greenwood, and was masked with white gloves. Fleenor fired twice through his overcoat, and Burris died later from chest and groin wounds. Police found $13.20 and stolen keys, with about $7 taken from Mrs. Fleenor’s purse. The city council had offered a $50 reward for Burris’s capture.
