Amherstburg Ontario February 2 two youths Captain Charles Hackett and 17 year old Herbert Courtney risked their lives to save two hunting dogs from a drifting ice floe on the Detroit River. The dogs were sighted by Courtney amid ice and near freezing conditions.
Rev. B. H. Bruner and Mrs. Bruner will be guests of honor at a 6:30 reception Thursday in the Linton First Christian Church basement. Ministers citywide invited, with a covered dish dinner for the congregation and friends. Program includes invocations, welcomes, choir numbers, readings, and responses led by Rev. Bruner.
The Indiana State Highway Commission reports bids received for fourteen bridges and drainage work totaling an estimated 377 500 dollars. Projects span Hamilton Gibson Morgan and other counties, financed by state and federal aid, including two bridges on Road 57 in Gibson and four in Morgan County as part of the 1938 federal aid program.

Washington February 2 U P reports a stormy start as Charles H Schnorr accuses Fred Roth of Cleveland of being handpicked to chair the little businessmen's congress. Assistant Secretary Ernest G Draper assumes control to restore order after the chair is proposed for permanency.
Bloomington February 2 The growing view among IU officials is that Herman B Wells dean of the School of Business Administration will be named permanent president following the retirement of William Lowe Bryan Wells has been acting president since July He has formed a self survey committee of three faculty to interview departments and recommend changes Paul V McNutt Philippine Islands will return to the U S before the February 28 board meeting If McNutt declines Wells is considered the leading candidate according to informed sources.
President William Green of the American Federation of Labor announced the executive council will receive a full report on failed peace negotiations with the Committee for Industrial Organization. An unofficial poll showed split opinion on revoking charters of the ten suspended CIO unions as the council prepared to discuss possible expulsions.
