Mrs. Helen Lundy of Switz City was admitted to the hospital last night for treatment. Mrs. Anna Cain of 710 South Main Street was admitted last night and underwent a major operation this morning.
The Lyons Hoosier Ambassadors defeated the Chicago Colored Crusaders 38 to 27 on Lyons High School gym floor. Independent Lyons team claimed victory in a local scene with strong defense and timely scoring.
Spanish Loyalists briefed by reports say American battalions from the Abraham Lincoln and other units have been thrown into the Teruel sector to halt the Nationalist offensive. Once clerks and students, these volunteers now command tanks and armored cars as the conflict intensifies in the Aragon front.
Charles E Brown Orville Goshen and Ethel Lehman of Carbon were arraigned in Clay Circuit Court on fraud indictments for the last election and released on $1000 bonds. Goshen faced a potential illegal residency vote charge while Brown and Lehman were accused of perjury for affidavits claiming Goshen's home in the precinct. The indictments hint at renewed inquiries into CCC boys voting at Coalmont, tied to 27 counts originally raised by Republican officials.

Dwight Faulding, 49, Santa Barbara hotel owner, was killed aboard his yacht Aaffe ten days earlier near Los Angeles by Jack Morgan during a dispute, the FBI said. Morgan’s true name remains unknown. on board were Faulding’s wife, two friends, and others. Continuation noted on page 6.

Alleged interference with labor organization rights spying on meetings and tearing down a union meeting sign by Ford agents. Lindbergh invited to testify on transoceanic air mail plans for the subcommittee studying related appropriations.
A Christmas shopping survey shows Linton shoppers spent more overall with local merchants last week and month. Out‑of‑town customers praised the wide selection, friendly salespeople, and attractive prices, supporting a growing trade area and confidence in local stores.
Mrs Indiana Cummins 83 longtime resident of Bicknell and Sandborn died at her daughter’s Sullivan home. Born Sept 13 1854 she was the widow of a Civil War veteran survived by two daughters Mrs Cleveland and Mrs Brower and a son A Turnmire of Lancaster California Funeral services set for 1 pm Saturday at Bethel Baptist Church northwest of Sandborn with Rev Osborn officiating. Burial in nearby cemetery.
Governor M. Clifford Townsend will headline a two day Greene county Purdue short course in Agriculture and Home Economics planned for January 27 and 28. Purdue University partners with the Farm Bureau Chamber of Commerce Luncheon clubs Home Economics association and the county Board of Education to run the program open to all residents. An eight committee structure and three directors coordinate the event aiming to cover multiple phases with about 150 volunteers and no admission charges for sixteen instructional sessions.
Shanghai Dec 31 reports say Chinese troops plan a gigantic three-front offensive in Shansi with armies attacking the Japanese from south north and west. The Eighth Route Army core drives guerilla gains and provoques wider disruption along the front from Shanghai to Nanking with 100000 behind lines in Kiangsu and Anhwei.
Grand Rapids December report from Charles F. Campbell secretary of the Grand Rapids Furniture exposition says the furniture industry outlook is the strongest in months. He notes buyers at the November show expect heavy purchases at the January 3 market with no price increases anticipated.
Linton High School faces Dugger in a dual basketball doubleheader Saturday in the local gym. Coach Jere Goodman expects strong support as the Miners aim to sustain a four point a minute scoring pace and improve goal shooting behind Smith Beasley Fish Jones and Adkins with Jones rated the money player for offense and defense.
Charles Letsinger, a 65 year old Linton postal worker, retires after 33 years and three months with the U. S. Postal Service. He began Sept 15, 1904 as a rural carrier and later served 30 years as city mail carrier, delivering along a 24 mile route through Linton and nearby areas.
President Roosevelt used Theodore Roosevelt wording to say attacks on big business target only malefactors of great wealth not all rich men. He called the statement a New Year parable and refused to name individuals while commenting on anti monopoly debates with Jackson and Ickes and clarifying past episodes.
Washington reports that New Deal spokesmen accuse powerful families of blocking economic progress and demand relief from tax and regulatory burdens. Secretary Harold Ickes broadcast a critique of monopoly and concentrated wealth as the administration steps against big business.

Officials called the analysis surprisingly optimistic while noting the government’s role could either aid the normal recovery or allow abnormal influences to slow it.
