The Indiana Public Service Commission weighed a request by the Illinois Central Railroad to permanently abandon daily passenger service between Indianapolis and Effingham. The line, unused since 1945, would lose passenger trains amid claims of no economic justification. The carrier proposed special trains for Indianapolis to Bloomington during University football season.
Weather officials predicted colder conditions and light snow in Indiana starting Wednesday. Northern areas may see 2 to 5 inches? of snow, with the five day forecast showing low temperatures lasting into Saturday. Snow expected again in northern Indiana Friday and Saturday, with rain or snow in the southern half.

Mrs Martha Edington 83 of Lyons Greene county died Monday after a short illness. Born in 1864 to Margaret and James Storms she lived in Greene county all her life and in Lyons last 30 years. Survived by daughter Emma Hardesty Lyons three sons Edgar Medcalf Noah Bloomington two sisters Sadie Geddes twelve grandchildren eight great grandchildren. Funeral at Lyons Church of Christ Wednesday at 1pm with Rev Voris Carpenter officiating. burial Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Indianapolis December 30. Dean H Mitchell of Hammond announced the appointment of a state committee to sponsor the 1948 March of Dimes Infantile Paralysis Campaign with directors named in all Indiana counties. Governor Gates is honorary chairman and Mrs. Robert F. Shank of Indianapolis is vice chairman.
Indiana's newest daily paper, the Bloomington Daily Herald, began distribution in Bloomington. Owned by George J. Wise and Stewart Riley, the edition lists Wise as publisher, his son Charles as general manager, and Tom Andrews as city editor.
Searchers from bush pilots army airmen and dog team crews comb Mt. Serpentine slopes 100 miles north of Nome for five missing members of the B 29 crash during Arctic training. Six survivors were rescued after a string of forced landings and weather delays.

Mrs. Roxina Nalker and her daughter Barbara, both of Linton, were treated after nearly dying from carbon monoxide poisoning. A gas heater left on full speed in a four room home reduced oxygen, causing toxic fumes. they recovered, aside from headaches.
Mrs. Alanora Yates aged 83 died at 11:30 am at the family home near College Hill in West Linton after a short illness following a stroke last Wednesday. Born in Ohio October 30, 1864 she lived in Linton 40 years and was a member of the Third Street Northeast Church of God. Survived by two sons Edward and Thomas Yates a foster daughter Maybell Ernest a brother George Moore a half brother Tom Moore a half sister Mrs Rosa Woolf five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral arrangements to be announced.
John W. Buck 72 longtime resident of Pleasantville and Sullivan died at 10 45 p m Monday in Mary Sherman hospital Sullivan He served as Jefferson township trustee 1919 to 1923 and was a retired carpenter He is survived by three sons Garrett Buck Ernest Buck and John Buck Jr two daughters Iloe Little and Mary Bedwell and two brothers Claude Clyde Buck Funeral arrangements include Newkirk Funeral home Pleasantville state in Mt Moriah cemetery with services at Pleasantville Methodist church Rev Harry Karns officiating
