Police hunted the brother in law of Richard Mallory 45 after he was fatally shot at his home on Saturday night. Mallory reportedly argued with his sister in law Mrs Farline Rivers before the shooting as she and her husband John 31 escaped while Mallory lay wounded on the kitchen floor.
Sullivan attorney and joint state senator from Vigo and Sullivan counties, Paul Boyle, 41, was charged with driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene after his car struck Trooper Jay Dennis, injuring him near Terre Haute on US Highway 41. Boyle posted bond after a Saturday Terre Haute hearing where he pleaded not guilty.
A Christmas tree defect caused a fire at Doctors Memorial Hospital in Minneapolis Minneapolis Minn. on Sunday killing seven people and injuring six as dense smoke trapped patients on a five story ward. Firemen blamed faulty wiring in the tree and said most deaths were by asphyxiation. Victims include Mary Balliet Ella Mullin Lydia Becca Carolyn Vale ara Stone Clarence O Green and a 13 day old boy, son of Robert Rasmuseng of Excelsior Minn.
A Memphis dog was rescued after an arduous fall into a 15 foot cistern. The animal recovered and leaped about joyfully before an accidental tumble back. Local responders retrieved the pet and checked its condition.

Frank Columbus Remines, 29, of Aberdeen Maryland, pleaded guilty to petit larceny for passing two fraudulent checks in Linton last week. Orion C. Daugherty 59 a Plummer community farmer died Saturday at West Tenth Street Veterans hospital Indianapolis after five weeks illness. Funeral services were held at Jenkins and Sons Bloomfield with Rev. Lloyd Miller. Burial Prairie Chapel cemetery. Survived by mother Lewy Ellen Daugherty and three sisters Mary Rector Providence R. L. Minnie Sigman Indianapolis Audrey Parris Dayton Ohio.
Greene county high school students are invited to the Hoosier High School Basketball Day at Indiana University on Saturday December 29. Indiana will host UCLA at 1 30 p m in the Fieldhouse with 5000 student seats open to high schoolers for 50 cents. Adults pay a dollar in select sections. The game is the Mid West televised Game of the Week and the Indiana Memorial Union cafeteria will offer luncheon.
Traffic deaths during the Christmas season surged past 40 state and national totals with California reporting 41 fatalities and Illinois 33. A United Press tally at 10 a.m. CST counted 41 traffic deaths, 23 fires, seven train crashes, and four other mishaps for a total of 485. A two-car crash near Clark South Dakota killed a family of five while fires in Minneapolis and Meriden claimed 13 lives. Ned H. Dearborn urged motorists to pledge to slow down and avoid drinking if driving.

Police hunt a group of boys believed to have started a late night tenement fire in Meriden Connecticut that suffocated five family members. Victims include Mrs Eulalia Rios 39 and her children Gladys 17 Eddie 3 Eddie Nelson 4 and Isabelle 6. Several relatives were hospitalized in fair or poor condition as two hundred theater evacuees fled.
