Hunters used muzzle loaders and home made bullets, prizes were turkeys or small money, and crowds gathered with rivalry and camaraderie before humane laws ended live-turkey contests. An afternoon lobby reception runs 2:36 to 6:30 p.m. at the King's Inn and a 7 to 9 p.m. program at Jasonville High School gym features speeches by Landis and Jasonville Mayor William H. Slough followed by a free dance with a local orchestra. Residents from Greene and surrounding counties are expected to attend.
Mrs Fielding P. Williams of 689 A street northeast is notified she won ten dollars in the What's My Name contest sponsored weekly by Philip Morris of New York. Her name will be announced at 7 pm tonight on the NBC radio program.
Miss Mildred Decker underwent a major operation this morning. Mrs. Robert Hudson of Owensburg submitted to a major operation Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Frank Jones of Salsberry rural route was taken to her home this morning.
A special Christmas program and pageant will be presented at 7 o clock Sunday evening at Linton First Christian Church. The first half features beginners to junior high departments, followed by a pageant of Isaiah prophecy and the birth scenes with shepherds and wise men set to Christmas music by junior and adult choirs. Over sixty participants, led by a church committee, will perform, with Rev. B. H Bruner delivering the Sunday morning sermon.
In Terre Haute on Monday Mary Anderson Raymond King and Miss Francis Davis shopped in town with brief notes of their outing.
The Linton Saron Reform church will dedicate its newly installed pipe organ this Sunday at 7 30 pm A public recital features Ralph W Waterman guest organist with Bach Kirn berger and other selections including Stille Nacht Gesu Bambino and Winder pieces A large audience is expected for the event.

Uruguay opposed the plan as the steering committee prepared to meet tomorrow. Other agenda items included continental solidarity among 21 republics and lowering tariff barriers.
The presidents' conference of Southeastern railroads voted to cut coach fares to one and a half cents per mile. The reduction, a half-cent, will take effect once tariffs are published, likely in January, and applies to all lines east of the Mississippi and south of the Ohio and Potomac rivers.

Fort Wayne Indiana police say despondency likely motivated Ruth Reaser 39 to murder her three and a half year old son Alfred Jr and try to kill five year old Martin Leroy. The children were attacked with a twelve inch butcher knife as the mother, now jailed, wrested the knife from her and fled with Alfred's body to a neighbor. Ernestine the 18 year old stepdaughter aided by summoning help. A note found at the home remains sealed. Despondency followed a recent separation from her husband.
The Linton junior high Welders win both games against Paxton teams with the A squad 27 to 7 and the B squad 16 to 7. Captain Bill Holder leads the A team with ten points, and the charity game to aid Christmas baskets features Sullivan Golden Arrows on December 21 with admission in cans or money.
In Juneau Alaska on December 16 a wind storm threatened to become a blizzard and risked 18 shipwrecked sailors on Cape Fairweather shores 400 miles south of the Arctic Circle. They have lit beach fires and signaled for medical aid as coast guardsmen aboard Maida cannot land due to heavy surf.
Rome report states the cabinet approved a decree requiring Italian Jews to register all property. Those with holdings beyond set limits must surrender excess to a government agency to be liquidated and repaid with 4 percent bonds. The decree also bans city real estate above tax thresholds and prohibits businesses employing over 100 people.
Jennie Motsinger as administratrix sues Greene county sheriff Bert Caldwell and Metropolitan Casualty Insurance in Greene circuit court Bloomfield for 5000 dollars claiming failure to keep Carlin Motsinger safe while imprisoned. Motsinger died Dec 2 1937 from a fractured thigh bone with alcoholism listed as a secondary cause.
The United Brethren church choir will present The Child Divine Christmas cantata at 7 p.m. Sunday in the church basement with soloists and ensembles led by Miss Winona Boston as director and Miss Amy Burrell as accompanist. A large crowd is expected.
Miss Ruth Marie Fritz of Linton will sing in the Messiah chorus at DePauw University on Sunday evening December 18. The performance features a 150-voice chorus, 65-piece orchestra, and soloists Edna Bowles Carmen Siewert Edmond Jarvis and Perry Rush.
