New Violence Occurs in Mideast Dispute

In Port Said Egypt underground fighters attacked a British eight man patrol with grenades and machine guns injuring one soldier. Five grenades were used in a 30 minute assault as troops sought cover. Syria was reinforcing along the Turkish frontier and a Syrian cabinet crisis and bloc demands were reported from Beirut.

Frank Vits Dies at 73 in Detroit Hospital

Frank Vits 73 of Linton died at 1 30 this morning at Osteopathic hospital Detroit after a week of serious illness. Born in Lovaine Belgium February 12 1883 he lived mainly in Linton and worked in local coal mines and two years for Hudson Motor Co in Detroit during World War II. Survived by daughter Frances Vits Bush Detroit son Roger Vits Linton and granddaughter Philomena Vits Lehman Linton. Body returning to Welch and Cornett Funeral Home awaiting arrangements.

Five civil actions were given consideration in Bloomfield court. Rosie Mae Sexton was granted a divorce from Billy Lee Sexton with $125 attorney fees. Twelve Are Killed in State Accidents Nationwide

A weekend of icy highways and spinouts left at least 12 dead in Indiana and nearby areas. Victims include Leogootee youths Thomas May 19 Charles O Maley 17 and Donald Barley 20 after a crash on Ind 58 near Odon. Snowy highways in storm toll claim several lives

A weekend blizzard blanketed the Texas Panhandle to New England with snow and ice causing numerous crashes. At least 39 deaths were blamed on the weather with two fatal wrecks each leaving six people dead. A Missouri family perished in Wyoming when their car slid into the Snake River and six Patterson N Y girls died after a crash with a tractor trailer. Three brothers, ages 8 to 12, drowned while shoveling snow.

Hoosier Boy Held in Fatal Beating

Malcolm Lee Beggs a 45 year old New York actor in the touring company of No Time for Sergeants was beaten to death in his 16th floor LaSalle Towers apartment in Chicago. Two teenagers Robert Mitchell 19 St Louis and Haskell Ray Kelems 18 Evansville Ind were found with the body after neighbors called police. Investigators say the youths met Beggs Sunday night in the Loop and planned to rob him. the assault followed a struggle with bottles used as weapons.

Robbery at Service Station Exposes Silence by Owner

16 Nations Demand Censure of Russia

United States and 15 other powers urge the United Nations to condemn Russia for depriving Hungary of liberty and independence. The draft resolution calls for Russian troops to withdraw from Hungary under UN observation and for no further intervention.
