Reports from Jasonville and Coalmont say a coal miner living between the towns has allegedly molested and assaulted young girls aged ten to nineteen on trips to school. A manhunt is under way as posses with ropes search the county, with officials awaiting victim identifications before charging.
Indianapolis Dec 9 Senator Harry S New declared he is more than pleased with his week's work after conferring with over 100 Republicans from various districts. He left his campaign in charge with manager Fred King as he departed for Washington last night.
Richmond December 9 reports Dr Wilmer Amos Hadley a former army surgeon and ranchman was put to death in the electric chair at the state penitentiary for the murder of his wife Mrs Sue Ensley Hadley in November 1918. Prison attendants said he faced death calmly and stoically.
Tyrone Kentucky December 9 armed men removed whisky valued at more than 50000 from the T B Ripy distillery near Tyrone. Twenty men held up the superintendent and three guards. Ten barrels and 194 cases of bottled in bond whisky were taken using three touring cars and two trucks. Police in central Kentucky towns are alerted to locate the bandits.
Five thousand policemen will be sent out, if necessary, to enforce the prohibition laws in Chicago. Chief of Police Fitzmorris indicated after Mayor William Hale Thompson announced open war on bars, bootleggers, and moonshiners, and said he would instruct the police to begin strict enforcement.
Police tighten control after outbreaks in East St. Louis Omaha and Kansas City as 7,000 strikers expected in line. Eleven injured including a baby shot in Omaha. 15 arrests in East St. Louis include seven women. An injunction against the meat cutters union was issued but ignored. Madison Wis Dec 9 Governor Blaine demanded that Postmaster General Hays surrender to Wisconsin authorities the marine who shot a man at Green Bay two weeks ago while guarding a mail car. He argued regulations substituting individual judgment for government by-laws clash with state policy and said mere regret over an injury does not satisfy Wisconsin law.
Dunkirk New York December 9 Two men, J Tryll and Edward Klissowski both Dunkirk residents 25 and 32 respectively were shot to death by railroad detectives protecting a freight train. Police say guards were not on branch line trains and the killings may have occurred away from main lines. In Charleston a marine guard aboard Atlantic Coast Line express No 80 fired five shots at three men four miles from Savannah two of whom were wounded and the third fled. Packages tossed from a sealed car were recovered along with a buckshot hat. The express car remains held pending inquiry.
Miners at Clinton Coal company in the Clinton field remained idle as District 11 head John Hessler ordered a strike. Three mines are affected though seven were named. four idle due to market lull. Workers demand reinstatement of a pumper wrongfully discharged.
