Dragging of the Wabash river to locate a Terre Haute hunter who disappeared after a boat accident near Sullivan continued today. The missing man is identified as 30 year old Robert Davis of Terre Haute. Also in the boat were Bernard LaTona and Gus Tabor. Salvation Army volunteers provided coffee sandwiches and doughnuts to workers.
Dr. Edwin Bailey will be guest speaker at the annual Pink Lady dinner sponsored by the Hospital Guild. The event occurs in the tower auditorium of Linton First Baptist Church at 6:00 tonight, with Mrs. Ross Miller as chairman of arrangements and a program planned.
The First Methodist church will hold its family night service in the lower auditorium at 6 30 o clock Thursday evening. Rev David Shepherd the pastor announced.
President Eisenhower leaves Gettysburg for Washington after a long weekend at his farm. He resumes a cautious recovery with Press Secretary Hagerty saying progress remains excellent. A Cabinet attendance decision will follow lunch and a mid day nap.
H C Brookshire 77 former Linton and Thorntown resident died Saturday at Thorntown after illness. A WWI veteran and former National Cash Register worker, he was a member of the Linton Frank Courtney American Legion post. He is survived by a step son, two brothers, and a sister. funeral at the Welch and Cornett Funeral home with burial at View Cemetery. American Legion post to render military honors.
The Indiana Conservation Department estimates 204 990 wild ducks geese and coots in the state on the second waterfowl survey of the season. The figure is compared with 475 400 a year ago and 480 700 two years ago per biologist Dale Martin of Columbia City.
The National Industrial Conference Board reports the consumer price index up 0.1 percent in October, the smallest change since May. The index remains about 5.4 percent above the 1953 level, reflecting stable inflation dynamics.
Indiana Senator William E. Jenner announced he will not run in 1958, prompting a Republican scramble for a substitute candidate. Jenner said he aims to practice law in Indianapolis and would not discuss his reasons, while party leaders react to the surprise decision.
GREENFIELD INP State police fired four shots into a fleeing car Saturday night ending a wild chase. The youths Edgar Albert McPherson 18 on parole from the Indiana Boys School and Wayne Preston 20 Greenfield were identified. Police said the car exceeded 100 mph on Ind 9 and was believed stolen with a dealer plate displayed.
Miss Norma Linton reports two marriage licenses issued in Greene circuit court Bloomfield. Alan W. Clark of Elizabethtown route one and Patricia Ruth Rollins of Odon paired with Paul Staggs of Bloomington and Bonnie Campbell of Linton.
More than 150 patients, former patients, friends and relatives attended a birthday dinner for Dr. Fred Dukes at the First Christian church in Dugger. His family, colleagues, and the community presented gifts including a new medicine chest and a floral country doctor arrangement. The Dugger High School choir performed, and TV photographers from WTHI planned to air features on the 6 and 10 news.
The weekend brought milder air with highs in the 40s and 50s after a Saturday low near 17 and a Sunday high near 54 in Indiana. White River at Elliston held around eight and a half feet while light snow from Friday night melted, easing brief traffic hazards in the north.
Forest Wayne Keller 9 of Linton route three died Friday at the Veterans Hospital in Indianapolis after a 30 day stay. Funeral services were at McClanahan funeral home Jasonville with Rev. Lloyd Miller. burial at Peavey cemetery. Survived by widow Mabel, three sons, stepmother Elva Terrell, siblings, and a granddaughter. Clay City VFW post gave military honors at the graveside.
A second meeting to form a Linton High School Boosters Club will be held at 7:30 PM Tuesday at the local high school. About twenty five residents attended the first session, and the gathering will be open to anyone interested.
Pvt. Robert Blaker of Linton has arrived in Italy with a U S S unit. He flew via Newfoundland and Paris on a TWA flight and will be stationed near Milan with the Corps of Engineers.
Western scientists doubt Moscow claims as the Soviet rocket that carried the first earth satellite allegedly remains in orbit. Moscow Radio reported 894 circuits and possible pre sunrise sightings, while Cambridge moon watchers judged the craft likely crashed Saturday night.

A cold air mass that invaded the eastern half of the country over the weekend remained confined today to two widely separated areas: northern Florida and New England. Tampa registered an early morning low of 40, about 15 degrees cooler than Sunday. Elsewhere east of the Mississippi, readings rose 8 to 20 degrees from the previous day.
Fern Workman 53, longtime Jasonville resident, died Saturday at Freeman Greene County Hospital after major surgery. The Jasonville Baptist church held services with Rev. Royden Rea and Rev. C E Baker. burial at Fairview Cemetery, Linton. She was born May 22 1904 near Linton daughter of Van L Plew and Gertrude Ellis Plew. Survived by husband Jack Workman, son Max, parents, and brother Ellis Plew. Funeral arrangements by McClanahan Funeral Home Jasonville.
Cape Canaveral reports say the air force and navy prepared multiple missiles for a major display this week including the Snark Vanguard Atlas and Thor. Observers dubbed the event a bird watch as researchers aim to launch a test satellite and push new intercontinental ballistic capabilities.
During the 102 hour Thanksgiving weekend at least 11 people died in Indiana traffic events. Four victims were under five, two over 27. Deaths included Evelyn Shaw 20 of Terre Haute in a two car crash, William Marshall 27 of Montezuma in Vermillion County, and Elizabeth Dillon 18 from Roanoke Va who drowned near Geist Reservoir. One midweek fatality occurred Wednesday night. six deaths occurred Thursday, Friday and Saturday with no Sunday deaths reported.
Edward Lee Hollars 56 of Bloomington died of a heart attack after wading into back-water near White River to retrieve ducks. Found face down in 18 inches of water Saturday. He worked for Indiana University. Survived by widow Iea Hollars and children. Funeral arrangements at Allen Funeral Home Bloomington.

Ollis Foddrill 66 of Newark died Saturday morning at West Tenth Street Veterans hospital Indianapolis after months of illness. He was a World War I veteran and former Indiana State Fire Warden. Service at Concord Baptist church Calvertsville officiated by Rev Howard Snyder with burial in Calvertsville cemetery. Survived by widow Elizabeth Ann and children Frederick, Mrs Feeney, two sisters and a half brother. Funeral by Jenkins and Sons Bloomington in charge.
Marion Indiana reports the death of OQ C. Jerry Naugle 59 after a heart attack at Marion General hospital. Born in Edwardsport he graduated Bloomfield High School attended Franklin College and Indiana State Teachers College. He taught 23 years in high schools including Jasonville Elwood and Marion coaching mathematics football and track. Survivors include daughter Frances Mary Ann of Marion parents Stephen and Mary Naugle Bloomfield and sister Ollene Smith also of Bloomfield.
