Linton high school men fought back with a strong final period but fell 31 to 27 to Switz City Midgets in their first home game. Dugan led the Miners with 11 points while Scott paced the Switz City attack with seven points.
Large crowd expected at 7:30 this evening for The Path Across The Mill staged in the basement of Saron Reformed Church by the Christian Endeavor society. Proceeds fund delegates to the Young People's conference. Rev. Carl A. Hofmann directs.
In New York three Nazi spies Erich Glaser Johanna Hofmann and Otto Voss were convicted after a seven week trial of stealing U.S. military and defense secrets. Judge John C Knox will sentence them with a maximum 20 year term. Glaser’s mercy recommendation came after a 20 hour jury deliberation. Hofmann was a hairdresser aboard the German liner Europa and Voss worked as a mechanic at the Seversky plant in Farmingdale New York.
Paris reports strikers were jailed and about 120000 workers were locked out or dismissed across France after yesterday’s general strike. Premier Daladier orders a three year state of economic mobilization aimed at securing decrees while maintaining social legislation and a 40 hour week.
Federal state and local police hunted kidnapers who abducted Mary Brown 18 in Oxford Hill Maryland, while her sister Lucy 15 escaped. No ransom was demanded as William T Brown pleaded for her safety. Police tracked a truck used in the kidnapping amid a nationwide search.
Two Michigan prison escapees Paul Kish and Jack Thilbault and companion Herbert Tillett were captured on the Indiana statehouse steps. Kish, 24, of South Bend, served 25 to 40 years for robbery. Thilbault, 36, of Moran, served 12 to 25 years for robbery. Tillett, 32, of Indianapolis, an ex-convict, was shot in the foot and claimed he was only chatting with the fugitives. A toy pistol was found in his pocket.
Councillor E C Stuart Baker, re-elected Croydon mayor, can summon council in seventeen languages. Besides English and French, the other tongues are Oriental. He learned them as a political officer in India.
Karl Drummond 21 of Inglewood Calif admitted taking 150 photographs and 15 blueprints from an aircraft plant and smuggling them out under his clothing He allegedly offered the secrets to Japan for 2000 dollars but was rejected by U S authorities and the Japanese.
The Linton Frank Courtney American Legion post hosts a mortgage burning on Saturday Dec 10 at the post home to mark becoming debt free. Milo J Warner of Toledo will deliver the principal address with state and district officials invited. Floyd Shannon will receive the mortgage and the event includes a supper and tributes to past commanders.
Bloomington Ind Dec 1 Indiana University plans to field several new players as the Hoosiers prepare for their season opener against Ball State Teachers College next Monday December 5. Preseason practice ends Saturday and positions appear unsettled for some time.
The Linton Townsend club schedules its regular session at 7 o'clock in City hall Friday evening. A special entertainment program has been arranged and the public is invited to attend.
Hugh A. Barnhart announced a Greene county distribution of 11 641 41 from state excise funds part of 1 444 553 27 statewide to 1 603 units. Local returns include two thirds to cities and counties and one third to schools for the May October 1938 period with Greene county totals and individual town allocations listed.
A recount of Turman township trustee votes began today in Sullivan County Court House Sullivan Ind The recount was ordered after Byron Foutz Democrat filed a petition and William Watson Republican incumbent contested the ballot tally The recount commission includes Coffman Crowder and Lester with Wendell Tennis as clerk Counting started at 9 am with two witnesses per candidate allowed in the room.
William Alkire Jr. released from Mary Sherman hospital in Sullivan after injuries from a Linton high school football game last fall and brought to his home in Linton.

A Jordan high school bus collided with a Denver and Rio Grande Western freight train at a suburban crossing south of Salt Lake City. At least 18 students and the driver were killed, with 12 seriously injured and many others missing or unconscious. The bus carried possibly up to 50 students en route from Riverton to Jordan Senior High School.
