Bermuda residents prepared for possible assault by Hurricane Edith as officials said the weakening storm would likely miss the U S mainland while brushing Bermuda this afternoon. Weather Bureau reported Edith centered about 200 miles south southeast of Bermuda moving north-northeast at eight mph with a path that could pass east of the island.

The three room dwelling burned to the ground as motorists spotted the blaze before the roof collapsed. Firemen could not save furnishings.
