Miss Ellen Marie Slinkard, a Terre Haute business college student, spends a week at home. Miss Virginia Holden visits Miss Christina Williams in Vincennes. Miss Florence Kercheval, also from Terre Haute, vacationing with her parents here while attending college. Mrs Clyde Copeland and daughter Carolyn visit Mrs James Rumple in Jasonville. Miss Alberta Baker visits friends in Jasonville. Mrs Clifford Walker spends the weekend with friends and relatives in Plainville. Misses Genevieve Rousch and Daisy Pritchard vacation in Michigan and Canada.
The American Legion group gathered at the Wade residence for a Weiner roast and ice cream surprise. Attendees included Eugene Harold Friedman John Harvey Hodges Johnny Wade Bobby Wade Andrew Murdock Shirley Osborn Jr Jack Pierce Osborn Raymond Flack Wendell Alsop Billy Hase man Billy Jack Sims Mrs John Ingleman Morris Wade and Hoyt U Clark.
Mrs William Coleman Jr hosted a farewell party for Mrs Lex Sherwood who departs next week for permanent residence in Galva Tl. Guest Mrs Earl Aikin, formerly of the club now in Cleveland Ohio, joined the afternoon social hour. Refreshments in pink and white were served and members presented Mrs Sherwood with a gift as a token of friendship.
At a dinner a brief business session was led by officers of Ahias Community Club. During the social hour attendees played Lotto with prizes awarded to Mig Mae Stevens, Mrs Ruth Reintjes and Mrs Ann Reintjes. Additional guests included Mrs Mae Fafot, Mrs Wayne Camden, Patriga Reintjes and Betty Jean.
The Standard Bearers Jayga party was hosted at Miss Frieda Gillum's home. Guests were seated at small tables with flower centerpieces. George Parks led devotions, the 6th American hymn was sung, Miss Wanda Walser spoke on Insects of South America, and Miss Ruby Hannum shared a story from One of Eighteen. Refreshments were served to attendees including Betty Fordyce, Mary Etta Edwards, Marie Breck, and others, with Miss Frieda Gillum hosting.
Miss Rosiland Rosh and Wayne Keller united in a Thursday afternoon wedding on a northeast street. Rev S B Decker read the vows as guests watched in a terraced garden setting. The bride wore a light dress with matching accessories and was attended by her maid of honor, while Bud Housh served as best man.
The Pulitzer winning play now a film receives nationwide praise with Rex Ingram in the lead and Hall Johnson choir providing spiritual songs. Premieres at the Grand Theatre tomorrow afternoon as a inspiring, reverent spectacle.

Governor Alfred M. Landon, Republican presidential nominee, will begin his first eastern campaign trip August 20. He plans numerous rear platform appearances and brief speeches in West Middlesex and nearby towns including New Castle and Youngstown as he travels a Denver to Buffalo route. The return schedule remains unsettled but will include many appearances along the way.

Top steers at $9.25, bulk fed steers $8.88 to $9, heifers and beef cows $4.25 to $4.75, cutters $3.25 to $4. Heifers and lambs steady, heifers and cows noted, lambs nominally steady.

American League games included St Louis 4 over Detroit 2 and Chicago 6 to Boston 1. Philadelphia 38 defeated Washington 2. National League action saw Pittsburgh 5 over St Louis 4 and Chicago 7 to Cincinnati 2 as New York beat Boston 3 to 2. Only games scheduled.

The commission upheld time boundaries as too radical a shift from solar time, noting the move would be distant from the governing meridian under the Standard Time Act.
