Survived by husband two sons two daughters eight grandchildren four brothers and one sister. Funeral at Mt Vernon Baptist church Thursday at 2 pm with Brothers Joe Baker and Malcolm Broome officiating. Burial in Peavey cemetery.
The Atlantic Fleet reports two submarines Tusk and Coble r collided 100 miles south of New London during routine maneuvers at 4 39 a m EDT Tuesday. Both crews of 74 enlisted and 8 officers aboard reported no injuries and the subs, after steering to Groton for repairs, remained able to navigate under their own power. Full damage details await a complete investigation.
Mayor Earl Row announced the tenth and final street in Jasonville’s decade long plan to repave through streets using gasoline tax funds only. He emphasized no extra property or personal tax assessments were needed.
Rev Isaac Morris a retired Quaker minister marked his 102nd birthday at the Beech Grove Friends Church homecoming south of Paoli He received 102 one dollar bills and tested a new rocking chair during the 25th annual reunion where he preached regularly for 72 years.
Bids for a used front end loader were opened during the Greene County Commission meeting and placed under advisement after inspection. The board accepted the resignation of Civil Defense director Lex L. Edwards and planned to bid the courthouse drainage work on Aug 26. President Eisenhower said he plans to nominate Neil H. McElroy to succeed Charles E. Wilson as secretary of defense after a routine fitness review. McElroy, 52, head of Procter and Gamble, would take a $25 000 salary. Wilson intends to leave the cabinet by fall to help prepare the 1959 budget.
A. Edward Mantel, 59, a leading Indianapolis insurance and real estate broker, was killed and his 16 year old daughter Pamela was critically injured when Mantel’s car collided with Richard Parker’s at a street intersection on the north side of Indianapolis. Parker had minor injuries and Mantel died shortly after reaching St. Vincent's Hospital.
A wave of unidentified flying objects kept Indiana State Police busy from midnight onward as reports spread across Alexandria Yorktown Hartford City Anderson Portland Pendleton Greenwood Elwood Tipton and Kokomo. Troopers logged sightings of colored lights and moving objects with speeds up to 5 000 feet as bases and radar tracked possible meteor events and a plane landing at Bunker Hill AFB was suspected to be the object seen near Elwood and Tipton.
Clyde Reintjes was elected president of the Linton-Stockton school board at the reorganization meeting held at the high school. Victor Briggs was named secretary and George Greene treasurer. The board retained its membership. Dr M E Tomak will join August 1 1958. The budget for 1958 was approved. Re-enrollment urged for new students with pre enrollment in elementary and high schools. first graders must have tests and information. The high school building has been redecorated and repairs completed for the new term.
John Ticcotti of Terre Haute will be the special speaker at a Thursday 7:30 p m service at Calvary Assembly of God in Dugger. Rev William E Bedwell reports Frnie and the Andersons vocal group will perform special numbers.

Judith Fish daughter of Mr and Mrs Olvie A Fish of Linton route one completed entrance exams at Ball State Teachers College in Muncie and will enroll as a freshman this fall. She holds a Cancer Society scholarship and will major in medical technology. A 1957 Linton Stockton high school graduate she was active in Scitamard and Thespians.
