Reprieve Granted Hoosier Slayer in Indiana
Gov. Ralph F. Gates granted a 60 day reprieve to Jesse L. Pulido sentenced to die for the February murder of Marian Garcia in Gary. Pulido, a World War II veteran, was convicted of first degree murder on April 15 1947 for stabbing the victim 11 times. Reprieve starts August 8 as interceding parties seek more pertinent information.

Henry J. Kramer 70 a longtime Linton hardware merchant died at 7 30 AM at his home 110 C Street NE after ten weeks of illness. He founded Kramer Hardware with his brother Garrett in Linton and was a member of the Saron Evangelical and Reformed church. Train collision injures ten near Litchfield Illinois
The Illinois Central Green Diamond passenger train collided with a Chicago, Burlington and Quincy freight at Winston Tower, injuring at least ten. Two diesel engines, a baggage car and two passenger cars derailed, one freight car caught fire, and ten injured were taken to St. Francis hospital. No fatalities reported.

Bleachers Collapse at Hambletonian Race Injures 30
