Greene County 4-H Fair Ends With Livestock Auction

The Greene County 4-H Fair concluded Thursday night with the livestock auction as the final event. Exhibits were released, and grounds cleaned up Friday morning. Rotary Club members served a hot dog lunch to 4-Hers, with 720 hot dogs, 600 soft drinks, and 36 dozen buns consumed.

Tax Reform Plan Being Completed

Washington UPI reports the House Ways and Means Committee finished a broad tax overhaul with a 10 percent income tax surcharge for six months. The package raises about 7 billion in foregone revenue but includes relief for low and middle income taxpayers and ends with future Senate hurdles and a planned Oct 31 delivery from the Finance Committee.

Governor to Meet With SCLC Officials in Indianapolis

Governor Whitcomb will meet with a dozen welfare advocates led by Rev. Andrew Brown of the Indianapolis SCLC affiliate. The group seeks to “break the welfare cycle” and discuss welfare needs in a Statehouse office talk during working hours. Brown, Hardin Hodapp and Girton are among several clergy and welfare organization leaders on the delegation.

United Press International reports August began with similar conditions to July in Indiana. Showers and thundershowers were downgraded from likely to possible today. Rain probabilities range from 10 to 30 percent for today tonight and Saturday with a five day outlook calling for about two thirds of an inch total, rain likely Sunday into next week.
