Three Tots Unhurt In Evansville Blast

An Evansville blast and basement fire injured no one as three children Otis 2 Debbie Grimwood 5 and Steve 3 escaped unharmed. The fire started from a short circuit igniting a gas can in the Osborne family basement. Debbie Grimwood led the escape with Mrs Osborne helping others to safety.

4 H Club Show In Full Swing

An appreciative group of parents and friends visited Humphreys park as the 1956 Greene county 4 H club show opened. About one thousand 4 H club members from across the county exhibited summer project work with judging continuing through Saturday.

Gambling Payoffs In Detroit Spur County Grand Jury Probe

A former Ecorse official testified that gamblers paid more than $100,000 in protection money to suburban Detroit officials. State and county prosecutors requested a Wayne County grand jury to probe alleged crime and bribery in Ecorse and across the county. Montry said he worked two years as a payoff man for a gambling outfit and faced threats, leading to police protection and a secret hideout.

Suspected Slayer Of Three Is Nabbed In Chicago

Lawrence Neumann, sought for the June 8 triple murder at the Miracle Bar, was captured early today by a 200 officer manhunt. A police detail found him under a rear stairway after a bedroom noise was heard by a resident. He surrendered with a gun dropped and hands up, taken to the Central Detective Bureau for processing.
