Abigail Thorpe who celebrated her centennial last Saturday died at 1 am Wednesday at her Carlisle home. Born in 1821 in Kentucky, she lived in Greene County Indiana before remarriage to Allen Tharpé. Survived by daughters Sarah Ridgeway and Rose Bond and three granddaughters Ida Clarke Nora Cunningham Zolly Wolfe. Governor McCray sent congratulations.
William Hamke of Freelandville was taken yesterday to Michigan City asylum for the criminal insane in custody of Sheriff Harry Adams. He had been convicted two years ago of burning a brother-in-law’s barn. retrial canceled after a plea of insanity. Special Judge Hoover ruled Hamke burned the barn but is still insane, and he will stay until proven mentally sound.
The local carpenters union letters John Hessler of District No. 11 United Mine Workers demanding protection for carpenters working in mines without union cards. Hessler replies that workers must join their respective unions and follow their laws. Interested applicants may contact H. McMillion, business agent, A. B. O. C. & J. of A. Local No. 487, Linton Ind.
Charles Long aged 19 was killed when his wagon tipped after horses halted while hauling logs in Clay City Indiana. He was the youngest son of Gabe Long.
The Rosebud Circle will meet with Mrs. Robert Templeton tomorrow afternoon.
The Fraternal Order of Eagles passes resolutions mourning the death of Gus Clark a respected member whose life was described as virtuous and stainless. It expresses deepest condolence to his bereaved family and asks that copies be sent to them and entered in minutes. Committee members Ad Osborn Thomas Butt and E H Iverson sign the resolutions.
Regular meeting of the Masonic lodge is scheduled for 6 30 tonight to initiate two candidates into the third degree. The event emphasizes the lodge’s ceremonial proceedings and attendance.
