The German Zeppelin von Hindenburg completed its maiden Rio De Janeiro trip and return, though Brazilians recall its nose into the San Jose field hangar in Rio. The airship is to fly to the U S in May and arrived safely at Friedrichshafen on the return with no accident.
An 18 year old Lloyd Lewis from Missouri won and then lost Eddie Cantor's five thousand dollar peace essay contest. He admitted copying nearly all the words from a college president's article, insisting he did not realize plagiarism was wrong since the contest did not require original work. Central Press.
Nisw Haven Conwy April 18 The Yale linguistics department reports three Etruscan inscriptions in the United States support the theory that the Latin alphabet came directly from the Greeks. Dr Fiesel notes the early Etruscans used the letter x near the end of sequences, suggesting its value differed from later forms, possibly linking to Lycian usage. The findings, based on inscriptions from the Met Museum in New York and the University Museum in Philadelphia, challenge the view that Latin borrowed through Southern Italian Greek initials.
Purdue University tennis team starts the 1986 season with three veterans available led by captain Bob Nikolich. Don Edmunds and Maury Wakefield are listed as promising candidates. Schedule runs April 17 through May 25 featuring Indiana State, Illinois, Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State, Kentucky, Northwestern, Indiana, and the Big Ten meet in Chicago.

The State Highway Commission readvertises four road projects for bids after April 7 letting. Bids will be opened April 28 for eight grade separations and seventeen bridges, bringing total estimated cost to 818000 dollars. New projects include a grade separation on Road 12 over the South Shore railroad and a Road 12 bridge over the Grand Calumet River in Gary, plus others on Road 47 and Road 244.
Minneapolis report on a 1934 to 1935 wage survey shows average urban family monthly income rising modestly while expenses climb faster. Deficits grew from 6.76 to 2.82 per month as living costs outpaced earnings.
Virgil M Simmons, commissioner of the Department of Conservation, said the forestry division cannot file the number of trees requested in the past two weeks.
