The Linton David D. Wiles Camp of United Spanish War Veterans plans a meeting at Elmer Flynn's home tonight marking the Golden anniversary of the Spanish American War. Estimates put Greene County veterans at about thirty with the local camp at 25 members and plans to sell its city home.
James Smith of Linton route three admitted Friday for medical treatment. Chris Chamberlain and Chris tine Chamberlain of Linton underwent tonsillectomies Saturday and were dismissed today. Mrs. Mary Mowery of Linton admitted Saturday. Miss Lois Rollison of Lyons had an appendectomy Saturday. A boy born to Mrs. Frieda Carr of Linton route two named Gerald William. Mrs. Betty Burris of Jasonville route two had surgery Saturday. Mrs. Gayle Williams of Mineral gave birth to a boy Sunday named Larry Gayle. Mrs. James Teague of Sandborn mother of a daughter Sunday named Judith Ann. Miss Mary Ellen Tidd underwent major surgery Sunday. Miss Evelyn Stafford of Indianapolis underwent surgery today. Miss Shirley Jean of Linton had an appendectomy this morning. Weekend dismissals include Otto Bennett of Linton.
Police in Greene County reported one of their busiest weekends with three minor accidents on state roads 67 and 54 near Bushrod and Bloomfield, plus multiple arrests for public intoxication and related charges. Eugene Sparks of Worthington faced DUI and public intoxication penalties after a crash with James Farthing of Ft. Knox, Ky. Other locals, including Charles Duke and Guy James of Linton, Harold Perkins of Bedford, Harold Harp and Alvin Padgett of Doans, were fined for public intoxication or related offenses, while William English faces a stop sign charge and LeVon Jeffers a speeding case.
Mr and Mrs Cecil Hoffeditz announce the birth of a daughter weighing 6 pounds 12 3/4 ounces at Mary Sherman hospital Sullivan on April 2. The baby has been named Karen Elaine.
William Edgar Morgan 64 a retired farmer and resident of Linton for ten years died at 8 45 p m Sunday at his home 438 H street northeast after a three week illness He was born in Monroe county April 30 1863 and was 34 years 11 months and 11 days old He is survived by his widow Ida Bell Morgan two sons Roy M Morgan of Indianapolis and James H Morgan of Lyons a daughter Mrs Josephine Freeman of Indianapolis a half brother John Wallingford of Elnora a half sister Mrs Cora Roach of Indianapolis nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren Funeral services will be held at 2 oclock Wednesday at the Linton Evangelical United Brethren church with Rev William Medcalf officiating burial in Fairview cemetery

The Southwestern Indiana Optometric Society will meet for dinner at the Princeton Country Club Tuesday night April 13 at 7 o'clock. An educational program will follow in Dr. Warren H. Miller's office with Dr. Paul P. Conrad of Vincennes in charge.
The Wednesday Afternoon Bridge club will gather Wednesday at 2 o'clock at Mrs Rae Reeds home. All members are urged to attend.
Bulletin reports April 12 that Russian forces set up a check post on the International highway between Vienna and the American occupation zone. Traffic halted as the station operated near St Poelten, about 35 miles west of Vienna, part of a series of moves pressuring Western Allied forces in Austria.
A six member student fact finding board met in closed session to report on the suspension of Dr George Parker Evansville college professor and Wallace supporter. Parker was ordered not to report for classes by the trustees after presiding at a Wallace rally. He refused to resign and faces a year end contract.
All Linton organizations were urged to send a representative to a meeting with Mayor Arthur Grass at 7:00 tonight in the city hall. The announcement stressed the importance of representation by every local group.
Members of the Linton Methodist Church plan a reception for Rev and Mrs R B Baldridge in the church basement Wednesday at 6 15 PM. Attendees are asked to bring a covered dish and their own table service.

White River surpassed the 24 foot stage at Elliston today and rises at about an inch per hour. Weather official O H Brown notes 1.63 inches of rain Sunday into Monday and forecasts more rain tonight or tomorrow. A 27 foot crest could bring extensive damage to wheat ground in upper river bottoms.
In Greene circuit court at Bloomfield this weekend four marriages licenses were issued. Evelyn E Hayes was granted a divorce from Howard Hayes with custody of two children and support set at seventy dollars monthly. Lucinda Riley divorced Alfred Riley. A time to answer was extended to May 3 in Ray Fields v George Michael. Other hearings included Charlotte Blaker v Milo Blaker and Lillian Booher v Wendell Booher with advisement and restraining order continued. Licensees include Charles F Pickard Sr and Edna Padgett Worthington, Leland Ray Worthington, Madge Marie Nichols Bloomfield.
Ruth Ellen Gageby 51, wife of Wood Gageby, died Saturday evening in Union hospital Terre Haute after a brief illness. Survived by husband and son Franklin. Funeral at Gillis Funeral Home Terre Haute Tuesday at 1 pm with burial in Washington Park Cemetery Indianapolis. Wood Gageby, Linton native, former Linton High School graduate, longtime National advertising manager of the Terre Haute Tribune Star.
Stores in Linton will stay open from 8 00 to 9 30 each morning Tuesday through Thursday to allow clerks and merchants to attend a five day Sales Clinic held at the Elks home. Plans were altered to stagger work so all can attend some classes led by Prof. Jesse E Powers of Indiana University School of Education.
Police in Indianapolis mobilized city facilities in a major manhunt after an eight year old girl said a blue eyed blond man lured her into a car, drove to a rural road and injured her. Witnesses report seeing the suspect near a tow truck and a garage. The girl escaped and was returned home as investigators traced the attacker’s movements for about an hour.
Funeral services were held for Leon Burch 21 of Bloomfield rural route who died Friday night at Robert Long hospital Indianapolis after a brief cancer illness. He was born July 19 1926 at Solsberry son of Francis and Maude Burch and survived by widow Marjorie Ann and three brothers John Dale Kenneth. The Jenkins and Sons Funeral Home Bloomfield arranged the services.
