An organizational meeting for a new senior citizens club is set for Sunday at 2 PM in the Humphreys Park shelter house. Olive Strong and Juanita Greenwood, appointed by the Salvation Army Board, urge community turnout to gauge interest and plan the group. Refreshments will be served. No age limit.
The House and Senate prepared to vote on President Johnson’s Great Society education and elderly health care proposals. The education bill faces GOP opposition over aid formulas, while the $6 billion health and welfare package expands hospital care under Social Security for seniors, with financing sparks between general revenues and Social Security. President Johnson proposed a broad Southeast Asia economic program to invest up to two billion dollars over years, aiming to enrich over a hundred million people in the Indochinese Peninsula. He urged global participation, including the Soviet Union, with hopes of a one billion dollar U S aid match from industrial nations.
Police at Camden Alabama used tear gas and smoke bombs to break up two of four marches by Negro demonstrators and white clergy. No one was reportedly injured. A white youth, James Benson, was jailed for resisting arrest. Two Negro youths were placed in protective custody and later released. Seven or eight out of state ministers wore clerical collars as symbolic uniforms of the civil rights movement. In Birmingham, three Ku Klux Klansmen were indicted for violating the civil rights of Viola Liuzzo, a Detroit civil rights worker killed on an Alabama highway. The indictment carries up to 10 years and $5,000 fine. a fourth Klansman was unnamed and the charge expected to be dropped.
Members of the Junior High Youth Fellowship and their guests are reminded that Saturday night is Junior High night at church services this week. Rev. Milan Johnson is the guest evangelist and the announcement urges all youth and guests to attend.
The Eagles Auxiliaries of District 10 will meet at the Terre Haute Moose lodge home at 7 30 p.m. Friday, district president Mrs Ruth Dixon said today. All members are urged to attend the announce ment.
Federal Aviation Administrator Naeeb E. Halaby refuted reports he planned to resign for a high paying airline post. He told reporters at a news conference that such rumors disturb him and that only President Johnson will decide when he leaves the job.

Soviet forces repeatedly opened and shut major routes into West Berlin today, halting a U.S. Army convoy and delaying traffic. The Berlin Helmstedt and Berlin Hamburg highways were closed at different times, while MIG aircraft used sonic booms and flew through air corridors, endangering commercial and military flights. Protests by the United States Britain and France yielded no apparent results.
Delaware County Safety Council spot checked cars Tuesday night in Muncie. Forty three cars were stopped and only twelve had seat belts, with merely three in use. Motorists with belts fastened earned free movie passes. In nearby Columbia City, 26 year old Boyd A Knowlson of Fort Wayne failed to belt up and later collided after attempting to fasten it, cited by State Police Trooper Hugh Geiger for driving left of center.
A blast damaged a four room concrete block house in Dothan Alabama under the front steps. Four white residents were asleep but unharmed. A man identified as Fontell Mathews 44 of Enterprise was inside the home. Police said the explosion was caused by a bomb and fragments were found nearby. No motive or racial connection found.
London reports Beatle Ringo Starr and his wife Maureen Cox expect a baby before Christmas. They wed February 11 and Starr says he hopes the child has talent and would be pleased if it becomes a musician, though he won’t name the child after any Beatle. The other Beatles are pleased.
At NAD Crane the kickoff for a large scale Zero Defects program drew about 2,000 of 2,900 employees to the Bus Depot. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense George E. Fouch urged pride in workmanship, cost cuts, and national security through error free production, noting Crane’s future prominence among defense and industry. Local officials and media reps attended as invited guests.
Pittsburgh reports negotiations in the nations basic steel industry continued as United Steelworkers await a reply to wage contract demands. The 15 point list was submitted last week to the four man top level bargaining team with 450000 steelworkers facing a potential strike if no agreement is reached by May.
A new round of showers and thunderstorms were scheduled to pepper Indiana with heavy rainfall in places this afternoon to evening from Lake Michigan to the Ohio River. Two dry days are forecast Friday and Saturday with mild temperatures. Temperatures ranged 65 to 75 across cities, with overnight lows 39 to 52. Rivers were rising but crest forecasts were revised downward.
