INDIANAPOLIS. James E. Coe 28 died when a hit and run truck struck him while he rode to work. Coe, father of six, was hit at a city street intersection. A witness said a three ton van struck him, the driver glanced once then fled. Coe rode a bicycle to his job as a porter at Weir Cook Municipal Airport due to no car.
A third spring snowstorm buried the Rockies and Western Plains with as much as a foot of drifting snow. The storm pushed into the East from the Great Lakes to New York, with five inches reported at an eastern location. Record cold followed as clear skies lowered temperatures near zero in Colorado and Wyoming towns.
Washington ap Post master General Arthur E Summerfield says Congress must grant 47 million dollars to avoid drastic postal cuts. He ordered cuts and Saturday deliveries to begin April 13 unless funding is approved, and warned he will resist court action against third class mail while urging a pay as you go system.
Marion C. Feutz aged 82 of Bloomfield route two died at 5 30 this morning in Freeman Greene county hospital after four weeks illness. He was born May 14 1874 in Taylor township and lived his life on farm near Bloomfield. Survived by wife Annie Feutz six sons Ray mond Virgil M Van J Vernon L Olaf and Oral Feutz all of Bloomfield route two two sisters Mrs Rebecca Griffith of Dugger and Miss Cuddle Feutz of Bloomfield two brothers Dan Feutz of Bloomfield and Sam Feutz of Tacoma Washington 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Body to Jenkins and Sons Funeral home. Services 2 06 Wednesday at funeral home with burial in Smith cemetery.

Wayde Carmichael 64 of Worthington died at 5 30 o clock Saturday afternoon at the Veterans hospital in Indianapolis after ten days of illness. He was born in Newark June 1 1882 and lived most of his life in Worthington. He worked for H. H Sloan and Sons in Worthington and was a World War I veteran. He belonged to American Legion Post 106 and to the Clarence West Barracks Veterans of World War I. Survived by his widow Zola Pruett Carmichael married September 16 1942 a daughter Judi Lane Moorseville a brother Fred Carmichael Spencer rural route and a granddaughter Judi Lane Moorseville. Burial in Worthington cemetery after services at Worthington Christian church with Rev Lewis Marsh. Funeral arrangements with Myers Funeral Home.
George A Surmont 51 longtime Linton resident died at Freeman hospital after illness from March 13. He lived in Detroit ten years and served in the U S Air Force in the Middle East during World War II. Survived by widow Helen, daughter Carolyn Harlin of Inkster, Michigan, stepson James W O Brian of Sullivan and stepdaughter Mrs Edward. Continued on Page B2.
Unusually strong radioactivity was detected in rain over southern Japan this weekend. Weather officials said the readings suggest a nuclear test was conducted recently and tied the event to the Soviet program announced by Britain and the United States last week.

White River overflow at Elliston cresting 8.5 feet above flood stage caused extensive crop damage across the county. Temperatures will drop below freezing tonight, frost expected in central and southern regions. Flood crests linger along the Wabash and White Rivers, with about 50 families evacuated in the Wabash area from last week’s floods.
Linton Stockton schools earned first place ratings in the Indiana School Music Association state contest for bands and choruses held at Linton. Winners included the band and mixed and girls Class D choruses and mixed BB choruses, with 1 303 pupils registered and 1 835 in bands and choruses.
