Tax payers of three Linn County townships meet at the courthouse March 13 1875 to discuss repudiation and delegate selection for a state convention. City Council in Linneus and adjourned sessions address tax credits and repairs with mayor pro tem and election judges appointed for April 6 1875. The new Congress convenes December with twenty one contested seats.
The narrative recalls 1832 settlements along Locust Creek in Linn County Missouri led by John Yount James Pendleton and William Bowyer. It notes their ferry mill and the Pendleton court nickname from a poker anecdote with Bee hive stakes and a rifle. It also recalls Indian conflicts Gen Gentry’s 1832 expedition and early life for westward settlers hunting bee trees and furs.
