A. H. Allen replies to a critic about下一 comment on Normal School value for teachers. He argues training at normal schools improves teaching as medicine and law require formal study, urges signing real names, and notes Cedar county flax yields at 60,000 bushels and Henry county at 200,000.
From Extenwood Kansas July 15 1875 a correspondent reports strong harvests across wheat rye barley and oats with rumors Barten county will thresh 100000 bushels of wheat. Fields yield up to 40 bushels per acre amid good weather with no pests. Emigration turning toward the Arkansas Valley and sheep raising profitable. wintering costs lower than Linn. Growth in lumber and building, school year notes, and a Vigilance Committee formed after local cowboy troubles near the Bend.
In a Washington Special report Douglass condemns white "friends" who beg for Black education funds and warns against Freedman's Bank mismanagement. He calls for Black churches banks and colleges built by Black people and urges independence from "wandering" class institutions and pandering reformers.
