Burr Oaks Farm Surpasses 1 Million Value and Jorn McKincaid Reports

Chas S Kincaid describes M Sullivan's Burr Oaks farm in Ford and Livingston Counties H as a vast operation nearly eight miles square with 400 to 500 workers and 600 to 700 horses. The farm runs eight divisions with strict cost tracking and daily reports on labor and expenses. Last year it cultivated 19 000 acres of corn at about 25 bushels per acre selling for 50 cents a bushel and costing 15 cents to produce. The property includes 300 miles of hedge, 150 dwellings, 100 barns and a 1 900 000 bushel capacity crib system. The farm uses its own shops and post office with wholesale purchases from Chicago. Burr Oaks headquarters sit near Burr Oaks village, with houses built around an open square. The farm employs Swedes paid 20 dollars a month plus board. Sullivan bought the land 20 years ago at 1 25 per acre for 50 000. current value may reach 1 000 000 and more, indicating vast gains for Sullivan. He plans 20 000 acres of corn, 2500 acres of flax, and 11 000 acres of grass this season. Mr Miner provides these details. The Philadelphia press praises the Senate for approving the President’s Louisiana policy, and Hon. T C Parker is named United States Judge of the Western District of Arkansas.
