Premium awards at the State Fair cattle show
Mr Preston Daniels reports from the State fair at Oskaloosa that displays were modest versus Muscatine. Premiums awarded include North Devon cattle to Mr Bent of Town City and J M Cannon of Davenport for thoroughbred cattle. Mare harness awards went to Goldings of Port Pleasant. J N Cannon won saddle and harness premiums. Tom Hyer of Cedar Rapids won stallion honors. J T Sherrill of Waterloo claimed young filly prizes. James Downs of Marysville won a plowing match prize. ducks and full blood specimens recognized. Durlambull Cannon of Davenport presented the state’s only thoroughbred horse.

On a dark Tuesday evening Mr Harlan arrived in Win town from Dubuque and agreed to speak. The court house filled with citizens at seven o clock as he delivered what we regard as the most effective speech in Linn county. He exposed the Democrats hollow claims about State extravagance and argued expenditures equal those under Locofoco rule despite population and other factors.
